Director of Racquet Sports
Country Club in Wayzata, MN is looking for a full-time Director of Racquet Sports. Includes medical, dental, retirement plan, vacation and more.

Position Overview:
Director of Racquet Sports at the Country Club in Wayzata, Minnesota. Incorporated in 1915, Country Club is a private family club located in Wayzata, Minnesota, western suburbs of the Twin Cities. Members of all generations enjoy the many activities the club offers including golf, tennis, platform tennis, swimming and ice skating. In addition to outdoor activities, members gather for family meals, a Sunday brunch, a special holiday event or an evening with good friends. The tennis facility, consisting of ten clay courts situated on the hill, boasts an active family tennis program. Over the years it has been host to several Junior Sectional Tournaments and is one of the most scenic facilities you will find anywhere. The platform tennis facility consists of four courts and a warming hut. This year round position offers a very active and comprehensive program of tennis and platform tennis for the enjoyment of adult and junior members of all skill levels. Required Education and Experience
● The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 3 years of experience as a Director of
Tennis/Head Professional in a similar equity club setting with a resume indicating
progressively more responsible positions.
● Proven track record of excellence in tennis/platform tennis instruction and
programming.
● Ability to lead and direct a team of instructors and seasonal tennis shop staff, as well as to work alone as sole instructor for platform tennis.
● Ability to order merchandise and supplies for tennis shop and racquet sports
activities. Provide the best selection possible within the constraints of inventory and
current Club merchandise strategy.
● Ability to perform work at a high level with minimal supervision.
● High level of attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
● Excellent speaking and written communication skills.
● Organizational and managerial skills.

● Enthusiasm and encouragement on and off the court.
● Excellent human relations skills and the ability to work with all committees are of

perpetuating the traditions and values of Country Club
● A 5.0 tennis playing competency.

Essential Job Functions
● Serve as an ambassador of Club racquet sports programs across the Club and
with colleagues.
● Train/coach entire tennis staff to be knowledgeable and engaged in promotion of
events and in creating an appealing and fun environment at facilities. Make tennis
and platform tennis facilities “the place to be” for Club members.
● Responsible for hiring seasonal tennis shop staff and teaching staff.
● Lead programming in an intimate small club setting.
● Communicate programming effectively through emails, newsletter, posting on notice
board, verbally from pro-shop and in person, and any other effective avenue.
● Bring members together via a concierge game desk.
● Make personal appearances to promote racquet sports where appropriate at Club
events, meals, and trunk shows.
● Fill in games when necessary or helpful to level game or to engage with membership
and facilitate enjoyable experience for members
● Attend all tennis and winter sports committee meetings and fulfill all requests from
committees in a timely manner.
● Be present in winter sports area (Barn) at select times throughout the winter.
● In conjunction with the committees, develop a detailed calendar of events each year.
Balance number of events with driving attendance.
● Prepare annual and monthly budgets for tennis operations; take corrective actions as necessary to help ensure that budget goals are attained.
● Maintain a culture that emphasizes traditional etiquette and sportsmanship, as well
as pro-active, personalized service.
● Manage a facility atmosphere that includes excellence, tradition, and understatement.
● Direct supervision of racquet sports teaching and seasonal tennis shop staff.
● Provide quality leadership and a positive, highly visible and engaging style. A genuine, accessible and approachable personality is an essential element of success.
● Be a passionate ambassador for the game of tennis with the ability to transfer that
passion to each member of the staff.
● Assure a consistent, efficient, seamless daily operation of Club wide tennis operation, provide members and guests with an environment that meets the values of the Club.
● Oversee operations and programming, with exemplary service and connectivity to
members and staff.
● Be a strong “consensus builder,” recognizing the importance and having effective
skills to reconcile differences and inspire solutions for a better operation and member experience.
● Provide tennis and platform tennis facilities oversight and management of day-to-day operations, as well as inspection and supervision of court maintenance and related
equipment.
● Provide private and group instruction at rates approved by the Club.
● Proficiency in playing skills for both sports.
● Produce a written season-end report for review by the Tennis Committee that
summarizes program highlights and recommends remedial actions required for
program improvements.

Compensation:
The compensation structure for this position was recently refined, resulting in a package which meets industry standards. This will be a W2 position and for all employees related to the racquets program. In addition to direct compensation, the package also includes medical and dental insurance, retirement plan, vacation, professional dues, and an education allowance.

The Selection Criteria
The primary selection criteria to be used in evaluating a candidate will include:
● Breadth and depth of experience as a racquets professional
● Degree of experience in similar settings
● Demonstrations of technical competence
● Ability to articulate a compelling vision for the future of the Club’s programs

Preferred Experience:
Possess working knowledge of platform tennis instruction and programming; exhibit high ethical standards and an appropriate professional image; possess working knowledge of member owned club budgeting and accounting practices.
