Director of Racquets
Club in Summit, NJ is looking for a full-time Director of Racquets. Includes base salary, revenue sharing of lessons, clinics and programs and a generous benefits package.

Position Overview:
Club is looking for an individual to take the year-round racquets program to the next level by evaluating and enhancing the adult, junior, and competitive programs and events, while improving the recreational playing experience. The position is full time and highly visible. Candidates must have excellent interpersonal skills, a keen sense of emotional intelligence, a leadership presence with staff, members, and guests, and a strong desire to improve membership experience. The Director of Racquets is expected to be a leader on and off the court, and actively contribute to a work culture that prides itself on professionalism and respect.

About the Club:
Located on the site of a Revolutionary War landmark twenty miles west of New York City, Club has been a center for family-oriented recreation and social gatherings since 1956.

Nine acres of beautifully landscaped gardens and woodlands surround the Club’s focal point which is a 27-room Tudor Clubhouse built in 1910 as the home of Carroll P. Bassett and Margaret K. Bassett. Club offers members eight Har Tru tennis courts, four paddle tennis courts with a paddle hut, an outdoor ice rink for skating and competitive ice hockey, a swimming pool, as well as a dynamic blend of social activities. Members enjoy both indoor and terrace dining at the Main Clubhouse. The Carriage House offers casual dining in the fall and winter and on the pool terrace in the summer months.

Director of Racquets Position Overview:
Club is looking for an individual to take the year-round racquets program to the next level by evaluating and enhancing the adult, junior, and competitive programs and events, while improving the recreational playing experience. The position is full time and highly visible. Candidates must have excellent interpersonal skills, a keen sense of emotional intelligence, a leadership presence with staff, members, and guests, and a strong desire to improve membership experience. The Director of Racquets is expected to be a leader on and off the court, and actively contribute to a work culture that prides itself on professionalism and respect.

The Director of Racquets will be expected to deliver a first class racquets experience while working closely with the General Manager, Racquets Trustees and Committee to elevate the member experience both on and off the court. The ideal candidate will:

• Be an ambassador of the Club and hold fellow team members to the highest standard;
• Be a strong “consensus” builder and demonstrate an effective skillset to reconcile differences and inspire solutions for improved operations;
• Posses a proven ability in managing influential members;
• Possess a strong attention to service and detail for the intra-Club and inter-Club experience;
• Quickly identify the needs of the membership and develop and publish relevant programs accordingly;
• Develop a comprehensive event calendar that provides equal opportunities and value for both recreational and competitive players;
• Offer a consistent, member-oriented racquets program that enhances the value proposition for our members;
• Streamline communications to better facilitate program growth, retention, and facility usage;
• Direct existing and new program initiatives including summer camps, lesson offerings, boot camps, and other racquet related programs; and
• Manage, motivate, and evaluate assistant professionals and seasonal racquets staff to achieve a unified team working towards the highest quality member experience.

The Ideal Candidate Should:

• Have a teaching philosophy that closely aligns with the Club’s mission statement, as well as the General Manager’s, Board’s and Committee’s shared vision for the Club;
• Be able to outline both a short-term and long-term vision for the Club’s racquet’s program;
• Provide a high and consistent level of instruction for all ages and abilities;
• Always display a high level of energy and a passion for working with all levels of players, including junior players;
• Have a proven ability to grow programs year over year;
• Have a strong desire to create new programs and revenue streams and to think outside the box;
• Have extensive experience building junior programs;
• Be skilled at effectively marketing racquets events and adept at understanding and adapting to membership’s changing wants and needs;
• Be able to create proprietary performance metrics which can be used to determine success of events and programs;
• Demonstrate an ability to understand the racquets program’s overall financial position and adapt programs and staff levels as needed;
• Be a motivator, who places organizational success above self-gain;
• Be a well versed industry professional who can identify talent from within and develop a team to fulfill the Club’s vision;
• Work in unison with the General Manager and maintenance staff to ensure the upkeep of our racquets facilities and to identify short and long term facilities recommendations for inclusion in budgetary cycles; and
• Have a laser eye for details that will impact the member experience at the Club.

Critical Success Factors in Year One

In the first year, the ideal candidate:

• Will grow the adult tennis and paddle programs, including competitive and league play, and revamp the junior programming for tennis and paddle;
• Will establish a network with neighboring clubs and create new programming and events accordingly; and
• Will develop a four-season adult, junior, co-ed, and family Calendar of Events.

Desired Candidate Qualifications:

An ideal candidate will be a certified racquets professional in both tennis and paddle, with over six (6) years of experience in a director setting, and possess the following:

• Platform Tennis Certification, and USPTA or PTR Certification;
• 5.0 Playing Ability (both tennis and paddle);
• A fundamental understanding of pickleball, both from an operational side and as a potential revenue source;
• Excellent organizational and time management skills;
• Ability to clearly identify a vision for the future of the the Club racquets program;
• A warm personality and charisma, and be naturally engaging with all ages and abilities;
• Is local to the area and understands the surrounding racquets culture; and
• Is ahead of the “curve” with programming and event management.

Compensation:
The Club will offer a compensation package that includes a base salary commensurate with experience, a strong revenue sharing component on lessons, clinics, and programs, and a generous benefits package. An educational stipend may be offered for select candidates.
