Tennis Director
Club in Miami Beach, FL is looking for a full-time Tennis Director.

Position Overview:
A team builder who has a history of attracting, developing and retaining a high-performance staff who, in turn, are able to be both responsible and accountable to deliver service standards that exceed all member and guest expectations. A proven partner to the Tennis Department.

An intuitive style resulting in a sincere and clearly engaged presence with Members, Guests and Staff. Having the stamina, sensitivity and overall multi-tasking ability to manage and lead in this type of environment is critical. This position is responsible for designs, plans and implements tennis programs to include special events and clinics with a major focus on planning and developing the Tennis Program. 75% of the Director of Tennis’s time should be focused on the development, planning and supervision of the business while 25% of the Director of Tennis’s time should be focused on conducting lessons and clinics.

Nature and Scope:

Develop and implement programs, projects and activities designed to increase the membership golf experience. Represent the club in its relationships with numerous internal/external constituencies.

Duties & Responsibilities:
• Supervises all tennis play and proper charging of fees, rental of equipment and independent contractors
• Initiates, directs and promotes tennis clinics, special events and programs in an effort to attract and maintain members’ tennis interests
• Validates membership and provide appropriate discounts and court access as determined by membership level.
• Provides beginning through advanced instruction (private and group) for all levels of players
• Organizes and conducts competition and tournaments.
• Implements and develops lesson programs for adults and juniors
• Enforces all club rules and regulations governing the use of the club/facility, its equipment and other property
• Works cooperatively with other departments to develop combined programs for the membership
• Provide beginning through advanced instruction to enhance broad-based member participation.
• Provide guidance to the Tennis Committee.
• Represent the club in professional tennis activities, including meetings and tournaments, ie Pro-Ams with members
• Keeps Director of Membership informed of any problems or issues relating to customers, guests, or the tennis program in general.
• Ensures proper inspection of the courts/facilities daily prior to the start of play and ascertain that all necessary maintenance has been performed and the courts are in a safe working order
• Monitors and maximize court usage including special events, clinics, lessons and play
• Responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, and directing work, evaluating performance, rewarding, and disciplining associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems
• Operate and maintain a reputable pro shop staffed with competent personnel and featuring quality merchandise and services
• Maintain hours of operation of the pro shop agreed upon by management
• Provide necessary coordination with the club accounting system to assure an accurate and timely billing operation
• Assures that effective orientation and training are given to each new associate. Develops ongoing training programs.
• Monitors business volume forecast and plans accordingly in areas of manpower productivity, costs and other expenses
• Maintain a positive and productive culture in the workplace by listening to employee opinions, making adjustments and recognizing the team’s accomplishments
• Develops and adheres to a departmental budget; after approval, monitors and takes corrective action as necessary to help assure that budget goals are attained.
• Exercise discretion and independent judgment in the completion of job duties related to matters of significance
• Complete all other tasks as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Hospitality Administration or a related field
• 5 Years or more of work experience as Tennis Director/Head Tennis Instructor, ideally in a Club membership environment
• Current USPTA/USPTR Card preferred
• Proven success in executing and managing Tennis programs, clinics and tournaments
• Proven record of increasing membership
• Experience using analytics to interpret outcomes, identify opportunities and drive tennis membership decisions
• Database experience, ideally with Agylisys
• A charismatic, energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards and an appropriate professional image. Is discreet and conducts themselves with a high degree of professionalism
• Strong management skills including planning, setting priorities, decision making, facilitating process improvement and is committed to continued personal/professional growth
• An intelligent and articulate individual who can relate to people at all levels of an organization and possesses excellent written and oral communication skills. Must be able to communicate policies, procedures, regulations, reports, etc., to staff, members and guests
• Ability to use effective problem-solving skills, and make independent decisions when circumstances warrant, exhibits sound and accurate judgment and makes timely decisions
• Provides exceptional member service and uses prompt and responsive follow-through. Asks questions to identify member needs and/or expectations. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints
• Able to work in a rapidly changing work environment. Must be able to adapt to changes, manage competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events
• Familiarity with private club operations and the regulatory and legal environments in which they conduct business is desirable
• Must be highly visible and have the ability maintain a flexible work schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as dictated by the event schedule

• Strong business acumen with ability to think both strategically and tactically.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to get along with diverse constituencies and personalities, including members, chapters, staff, and contacts at external organizations.
• Excellent writing and oral communications skills.
• Proven project management skills with ability to execute and deliver on multiple projects
• Google Analytics and Lead Generation software experience required.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and knowledge of association management systems, CMS helpful
• Lead by example utilizing a “hands-on” approach to management
• Ability to verbally communicate with others to coach and lead
• Experience making presentations in front of groups
• Track record promoting an atmosphere of teamwork
• Experience communicating, training, and managing multi-lingual staffs
• Strong and creative problem-solving skills with exceptional detail in follow-up
• Follow/enforce company policies and procedures
• Ability to quickly evaluate alternatives and decide on a plan of action

Working Conditions:
• Work is performed in an office environment and outdoor walking/standing for extended periods
• Ability to a flexible schedule to include, but not limited to nights, weekends, and holidays
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and have ability to meet deadlines
• Ability to play tennis at an expert level and display passion and enthusiasm for the sport of tennis.
• Ability to play and/or knowledge of Pickle ball preferred.
