Tennis Professional
Tennis Association in Chicago, IL is looking for a summer Tennis Professional to teach drill groups and lessons.

Position Overview:
Tennis Association and Tennis Center have 10 (6 private and 4 public) outdoor Har-Tru tennis courts located next to Diversey Harbor in Chicago. The facility is open from Mid-May to Mid-October.

Tennis Association seeks a Tennis Pro to teach drill groups and lessons as outlined in the position description. Qualifications and requirements are detailed below.

1. The Pro must be certified from USPTR to teach all levels. A minimum of 5 years teaching experience desired.

2. The Pro must be able to teach private, semi-private and group lessons to all members and customers of varying tennis skills and physical abilities.

3. The Pro will help develop and deliver programming to increase court utilization.

4. Together with the Club Manager, the Pro will assist in game matching.

Position Details:

1. The Pro will be paid $2,200 to teach 3 scheduled 2-hour drill groups each week for 13 weeks commencing June 1 and concluding at the end of August/early September. It is the responsibility of the Pro to secure and pay an assistant if attendance demands in order to conduct effective drill groups. Rainouts will be made up either during the week they occur or added to the end of the season if necessary.

2. The Pro will be required to supply the necessary additional teaching assistants/pros in order to adequately run the required weekly drill groups based on projected attendance. If the staffing requirements for any session should exceed 1 additional assistant, Tennis Association will reimburse the Pro at a rate not to exceed $25 per hour. Said reimbursement will be done on a net basis considering all 3 groups as a whole at the end of the season after offsetting sessions requiring 3 pros v. those only requiring 1 pro.

3. Historically, the Tennis Association Pro is able to attract approximately 25-35 additional hours per week of private and group lessons from Tennis Association members and Diversey Tennis Center customers. He/she can charge whatever he/she deems to be the appropriate market rate. He/she keeps 100% of the revenue generated from the Tennis Association member lessons taught on the private side.

4. The Pro will have priority access to book the use of court 6 for Tennis Association members only except Saturday, Sunday and Holiday mornings. During peak play periods, it may be necessary for the Pro to teach an Tennis Association member on the public courts. When this happens, the court time will be paid by Tennis Association. The Pro will have the right to teach non Tennis Association members on the public courts limited only by scheduling restrictions and subject to normal court fees. There will be circumstances under which it will be in the best interest of the Pro and Tennis Association for the Pro to teach non- members on the private courts. Tennis Association and the Pro will work out the arrangements to both parties to accommodate these situations.

5. The Pro is encouraged to create and organize additional groups and classes for Tennis Association members based on criteria that appeals to the members and agreed upon by the Club Manager and Tennis Association. These groups/classes can use courts beyond court 6 if scheduling allows. The Pro, club Manager and Tennis Association will agree upon rates for these additional groups/classes. If the Pro uses a court in addition to his dedicated court, he will pay Tennis Association an hourly rate for the court consistent with the hourly rate of the public courts.

6. The Pro will not be required to perform functions that are normally assigned to other staff. The Pro, however, is expected to assist with New Member Night, the Laver Cup and all other special events in regard to tennis organizing and planning.

7. The Pro is responsible for supplying his/her own equipment.

8. The Pro will report to the Tennis Association Board President with a dotted line to the Club Manager.
