Tennis Director
Country Club in Wayzata, MN is looking for a full-time Tennis Director.

Position Overview:
This department head position is responsible for overseeing the Tennis Department. S/he is accountable for maximizing Member satisfaction, exceeding the financial plan and providing leadership for the Tennis department. The Tennis Director prepares an annual budget and achieves these financial goals throughout the year, through proper forecasting, cost controls and labor management. Specific responsibilities include facility maintenance, hiring/training staff, Member instructional/activity programming and merchandise/service operations. The Tennis Director also owns the logistics and promotion of leagues, round robins, drop-in, ladders, tournaments and seasonal events. In addition, s/he must develop and promote tennis clinics, private lessons, adult, junior and senior programs. Facility maintenance responsibilities include maintaining courts in a professional manner and ensure that the environment is safe for all those who use the facility. The Tennis Director is an advocate and ambassador of unmatched service and understanding the critical role that membership and exceeding expectations play regarding the success of the operation.

Job Requirements:
• 3-5 years as Head Tennis Professional/ Tennis Director.
• Extensive private club experience required.
• Minimum of USPTA Pro 1 rating, 4.5+ playing ability.
• Experience with training of Tennis Employees.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required. College degree preferred. USPTA continuing education.
• Comprehensive knowledge of expense control as it relates to service payroll and the forecasting/budgeting of expenses.
• Diplomatic team player able to foster relationships with members, employee partners and guests.

The duties of the Tennis Director are wide and varied and include but are not limited to:

  • Lead day-to-day business operations.
  • Maintaining a neat, courteous presence in the pro shop.
  • Greeting members, taking member comments, and forwarding comments and requests to the appropriate party for action.
  • Initiates, directs and promotes tennis clinics, special events and programs to attract and maintain members’ tennis interests.
  • Complete annual budgets along with sales & payroll reports and forward to the accounting department of the Country Club at the prescribed dates and maintaining these records in the tennis office.
  • Managing all aspects of merchandising, including order taking and tracking, keeping thorough records, managing invoices, member notification, and member billing.
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, and directing work, evaluating performance, rewarding, and disciplining associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Staff scheduling and posting schedules.
  • Supervising court maintenance to ensure a constant standard of excellence in court conditions, specifically:
  • Preparing the courts every morning, including rolling, brushing, and stocking supplies such as ice, towels, water, tissues.
  • Setting the watering schedule for early morning (3 a.m.) and evening (11 p.m.).
  • Proper watering, rolling and brushing as needed throughout the day.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and order at court-side, in the ball storage area, court sweeper area, patio area, and sidewalks. Picking up clutter and emptying garbage cans, as necessary. * Arranging, scheduling, and supervising maintenance assistants in these areas.
  • Providing material for newsletter upon request.
  • Planning and implementation of junior programs, including curriculum development and creating lesson plans.
  • Work to increase awareness and participation for Platform Tennis and Pickle Ball while playing in as necessary
  • Supervising Ladies & Junior match play program, specifically:
  • Scheduling matches with other clubs & confirming at least 10 days in advance.
  • Preparing match play schedules in writing and posting in tennis building.
  • Communicating match play schedules to players & parents in writing and through phone calls.
  • Reserving courts for matches at the Country Club.
  • Confirming players to field a team for specific matches at least one week in advance of match.
  • Accompanying Country Club team on away matches, providing coaching to all team members at all matches.
  • Billing members for the match play at the completion of each match.
  • Recording match results
  • Enforces all club rules and regulations governing the use of the club/facility, its equipment and other property.
  • Works cooperatively with other departments to develop combined programs for the membership.
  • Incorporates safe work practices in job performance.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Tennis Committee Chair and General Manager.
