Director of Tennis
Health Club in Santa Clara, CA is looking for a full-time Director of Tennis.

Position Overview:
The Director of Tennis is an exempt position whose primary responsibility is the financial success of the Tennis Program through the on-going creation and/or development of staff, programs, services and facilities. The Director of Tennis will provide leadership to the tennis professional team to ensure that member needs are met and that the experience delivered surpasses expectations. The Director of Tennis will be required on a daily basis to exercise discretion and independent judgment in ensuring that the Tennis Program is successful and vibrant.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS
Employee Management
• Hires, trains, supervises, develops, and terminates the employment of those supervised in accordance with company polices and directives
• Performs timely performance evaluations on Associates and bi-monthly Associate department meetings
• Compiles comprehensive reports regarding performance of Associates
• Responsible for implementation of all laws, regulations and policies regarding, employment practices, safety rules and all other company policies and procedures
• Ensure day-to-day tennis operations run smoothly and efficiently through visible management presence and leadership
• Process, review and submit payroll for all tennis staff
• Act as club Manager on Duty, as required

Tennis Management
• The creation, development and implementation of programming for the tennis department including private lessons, tennis clinics, USTA leagues, tournaments, programs and events for all ages and abilities
• Develop and introduce new services and programs on an ongoing basis; track utilization including capacity/availability, male/female, member/non-member, etc.
• New Member Integration: set up new member with an orientation to the Club’s activities and programming
• Develop seasonal and special activity events. Communicate four weeks in advance with other department heads and tennis professionals regarding upcoming event details and event preparation
• Oversee all tennis operations including customer service, communication, marketing, purchasing, program development, implementation and evaluation
• Daily walk through of the tennis department to ensure a clean, organized, safe, and well maintained facility, paying special attention to cleanliness, service delivery, and member interaction
• Monitor the tennis court area: net height, tennis net and court-screen conditions

Financial Accountability
• Manage financial performance of the tennis program through achievement of sales and revenue targets, expense management, proper planning and forecasting, and retention
• Track, report and analyze the details of financial operation
• Prepare and implement action plans to meet or exceed monthly financial goals
• Assist club management in development of annual operating and capital budgets, as well as long term growth strategy
• Review applicable financial statements and reports
• Revenue management, including ensuring all lesson & program charges are inputted on the same day service was received. Submit and approve proper administrative paperwork with client signature prior to payroll approval (including late cancellations and no shows).

Communication and Relationships
• Effectively and professionally interacts and communicates with senior management, managers, other Associates, vendors, members, senior staff, and guests
• Promote harmonious relations among members, staff, vendors, and the community at-large
• Enforce Club and tennis policies as posted in the Tennis court area
• Communicate timely and follow up, as appropriate
• Active participation in required events, required programs, required meetings and required trainings

Corporate Goals & Objectives
• Promote the company’s safety goals and actively work towards ensuring a safe working environment
• Interpret and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
• Actively further Tennis objectives and continuously support improvement and positive change, which includes participating on corporate designated committees to improve the company and business operations
• Flexibility in work schedule, as job may require day and evening shifts, weekends and holidays
• Keep current with research in tennis teaching systems and programming trends
• Active participation in meetings and training programs

• Management of Financial Resources — Basic knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices for creating a realistic budget, banking, understanding financial reports and the ability to use mathematics to solve problems
• Sales and Marketing — Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics, and sales techniques

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
• Current Tennis Professional certification through either United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) or United States Professional Tennis Registry (USPTR) is required
• Competitive playing experience at national level preferred
• Minimum four (4) years of tennis professional experience. This includes college and/or elite professional competition and exposure.
• Demonstrated ability to support and develop diverse environment
· College degree preferred
• Current CPR, First Aid and AED Certifications

• Tennis Department staff

• Must occasionally talk and hear
• Must frequently move 10 pounds and in the event of an emergency lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
• This position deals with outside personnel such as members and clients on a regular basis with contact in various forms such as in person, phone and email
• It is sometimes necessary to deal with unpleasant or angry people with the need to problem solve difficult situations
• It is necessary to adapt to a frequently changing environment
• Sitting and standing is as needed
• Specific vision abilities required but this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
• It is necessary for the position to travel independently to tennis tournament locations or other Clubs on a regular basis
