Director of Racquets
Club in Osterville, Massachusetts is looking for a Director of Racquets.

Position Overview:
Job Title: Director of Racquets (DOR)
Directly Reports to: General Manager (GM)
Indirectly Reports to: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Supervises: Pro shop staff, assistant professionals, part-time on-court instructional staff, court maintenance staff
Employment Dates: Seasonal (May 15th–September 15th)
FLSA Category: Exempt; Salaried

The general role and responsibilities of the Director of Racquets (DOR) will be to deliver a range of services, customarily provided by an experienced USPTA/PTR professional. These services should include in order of importance, but not limited to:
1. Taking full leadership and management of all aspects of the Club tennis/racquets experience.
2. Availability and visibility to the general membership.
3. Ability to find, hire and retain outstanding seasonal staff in a very competitive market.
4. Create a comprehensive tennis/racquets program for all demographic groups of membership.
5. Communication and marketing of tennis/racquets and club programming.
6. Organize, schedule and manage tournaments, clinics and all other social events.
7. Management of a tennis/racquets pro shop well-equipped with the latest trends in style and technology.

The Club is looking for an experienced professional with at least five years’ experience as a Director of Racquets or Tennis, or Head Tennis Professional, who will take the Club to a new level with all aspects of the tennis/racquets experience with high levels of enthusiasm for tennis and social programming, while continuing the traditions, culture and attention to individual service of a leading New England club while expanding adult, junior, social and competitive activities to meet the ever-changing needs and demands of the membership.

The DOR position is comprehensive and must ensure successful achievement of the mission and objectives of the Club. The individual hired will be responsible for overall tennis/racquet operations of the Club and will be the true leader of the tennis/racquets program, with professional training and supervision of all staff and working with Club Management towards club-wide goals and objectives. This includes opening and closing of the Club for the season, in-season court preparation and daily routine maintenance, all on-court instruction, all social and tennis/racquets programming and related billing, managing a retail shop, court reservation systems, software for and allocation of court use, and assisting at all other Club operations and special events.

Leadership:
• Be a passionate ambassador for the tennis/racquets department while requiring the same of all staff and assistant tennis instructors.
• Create a comprehensive and welcoming environment for all demographics of the membership, with fun activities, tournaments and quality private instruction utilizing the latest trends in the industry.
• Generate member participation to meet the Club’s annual tennis revenue goals.
• Ensure consistent, highly ethical, efficient and seamless daily operation of club-wide tennis operations while providing members and guests with an environment that meets the values of the Club.
• Create, market, and oversee departmental programs and series to meet or exceed member satisfaction.
• Hire, supervise, lead and mentor all teaching professionals, pro shop and court maintenance staff.
• Work closely with the General Manager and tennis committee to meet objectives and strive for constant improvements to drive member satisfaction through superior service.
• Attend all management and tennis committee meetings and social events as required.
• Timely and consistent follow-up to emails, phone calls and texts.
• Represent the Club in the highest standard possible both at the Club and within the local community.
• Represent Club management at the tennis facility.

Programming:
• Organize, schedule and manage all tournaments, clinics, round robins, social events and other related activities to maximize members’ access and enjoyment of the tennis/racquets program.
• Create comprehensive events and activities to include social and competitive programming for all levels.
• Create comprehensive adult and junior instructional programs in line with current industry trends, while also within departmental budget and membership needs.

Management and Administration:
• Oversee Northstar Point of Sale (POS) operations system and keep an accurate record of all group and private lessons and clinics given to ensure accurate member billing and accurate sales/activity reports on a daily basis.
• Implement and supervise electronic court and instruction booking software system and allocate courts for teaching to maximize participation across all demographics of the membership.
• Ensure all guest fees are collected on a daily basis for both open play and instruction.
• Operate a merchandise and retail operation in the tennis/racquets shop to meet membership’s needs.
• Management and proper scheduling of all tennis, pro shop and maintenance staff accordingly.
• Communicate to all members on a weekly, if not daily basis, through email, text database, social media and other communications; update website materials on a daily basis.
• Enforce all rules and regulations governing use of the facilities, equipment, dress code and sportsmanship as per the Club handbook.
• Responsible for routine court maintenance on a daily basis during the season and to alert Facilities Manager and/or Grounds Superintendent of any safety issues or equipment repairs or upgrades required.
• Responsible for ensuring the tennis/racquets facility is clean and neat at all times.
• Participate in the annual budget process with the CFO and GM, monthly financial performance reviews and liaise with the CFO on financial and budget matters on a day to day basis.
• Monitor and provide financial reports on actual performance versus budget.
• Run a bi-weekly payroll for all instructors and work with the CFO in terms of payroll allocation for staff members.

Instruction:
• Develop and implement a program that adopts teaching and instructional philosophies that are consistently changing with current industry trends, while always embracing the Club’s values and traditions as an elite New England club.
• Provide an appropriate amount of private and group lessons to both adults and children, oversee all teaching of assistant professionals.
• Develop and implement a high-level and respected junior program that meets the demand of all junior abilities. Program should be comprehensive, creative, and innovative for all levels of junior play to promote more junior play at the Club.
• Develop and implement a respected and comprehensive adult tennis program that meets the demand of all adult player abilities. Program should be comprehensive, creative, and innovative for all levels of adult play to promote more adult play.
• Coordinate and administer all Club tournament and teams: ladies, men’s and juniors.

Candidate Qualifications:
USPTA or USPTR certification required. IPTPA certification is a plus.
• Competitive candidates should have a minimum of a Bachelor’s and/or Professional Tennis Management degree.
• A minimum of five (5) years management experience as Director, Assistant Director or Head Professional at a similar, member-owned club or similar hospitality property.
• Proven track record of excellence in tennis/racquets instruction, social and tennis programming, time management and operational management.
• Proven ability to attract, hire, mentor and retain a strong team of professionals while adhering to the traditions and values of the Club.
• Successful experience in developing, planning and implementing both junior and adult comprehensive tennis programs.
• Experience working with a tennis-specific POS system and accountable for accurate daily billing on the system required.
• Possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact effectively with several different audiences and in a wide range of situations.
• Excellent business and people management skills required, as well as holding staff accountable for their work duties, club financial goals, etc.
• Substantial experience teaching pickleball and creating pickleball programming.
• Strong working knowledge of court management and maintenance, specifically with the Har-Tru surface.
• Proven ability and history working closely with management and committees in developing and executing the vision of a member-owned club or similar hospitality property.
CPR/AED certified (or willingness to get certified).
• Ability to lift 20-25 pounds regularly and to physically play and teach tennis for long periods of time.
• Possess a high level of proficiency in both playing at a 5.0 level or higher and teaching tennis.

Selection Criteria:
• Breadth and depth of experience as a tennis/racquets professional in line with the vision, culture and needs of the Club.
• Degree of experience in similar, elite private club or similar setting.
• Ability to articulate a compelling vision for tennis/racquet programming to all demographics of the membership.
• Demonstration of technical competence.
