Tennis Director
Tennis Facility in Burlington, North Carolina is looking for a full-time Tennis Director.

Position Overview:
Performs professional and responsible work in planning and implementing a comprehensive tennis program that meets the needs of the residents and visitors of the Facility.

Distinguishing Features of the Class:
An employee in this class is responsible for planning and directing a comprehensive tennis program for the residents and visitors of the Facility. The employee recruits, onboards, develops and evaluates all personnel within the tennis program. Work involves managing three outdoor tennis locations, including the Tennis Center. Responsibilities include enforcing the rules of the Tennis Center as they relate to tennis play, attire, and etiquette, providing instruction clinics with a strong emphasis on junior tennis, and maintaining all tennis courts, including cleaning courts of debris, changing old nets, wind screens, center straps, fencing, net posts and maintaining surrounding areas. The employee also submits an annual budget and fee schedule recommendations to cover anticipated operating expenses, recommends future projects for the tennis facilities, submits payroll for tennis personnel, manages fees collected for court reservations, and writes evaluations on programs. This employee is also responsible for developing and fostering strong community relationships, promoting Tennis, and recruiting tournaments. Work is performed under the supervision of the Recreation & Parks Director and is evaluated through regular communication, staff meetings, compliance with established policy and procedures and effectiveness of work completed. This classification is considered exempt in compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Examples of Duties:
• Plans and directs a comprehensive tennis program for the community.
• Manages court reservation system to provide maximum court time.
• Provides customer service; deals tactfully and courteously with Tennis Center patrons and establishes harmonious public relations.
• Works with NCHSAA in promoting and running high school playoffs and championships at the Tennis Center.
• Sets up schedule of matches at Tennis Center for local high schools to achieve maximum usage of tennis courts.
• Works with USTA and the NCTA on a local, statewide, and national level to promote tennis; promotes tennis with businesses, civic groups, and private clubs.
• Works with the Alamance Junior Tennis Foundation (AJTF) in helping promote tennis through organizing and running the Jim Powell Mid-Winter Invitational (provides the main source of income to promote tennis in high schools).
• Organizes, in conjunction with the AJTF, the six weeks summer Aces & Deuces Program in Burlington, Graham, and Mebane.
• Works with AJTF to securefunding to purchase balls, ball hoppers, court roll dryers, and other essential tennis accessories for women and men tennis teams in the Alamance-Burlington School system.
• Works with AJTF in promoting tennis through local Salvation Boys and Girls Club; elementary, middle and high schools by giving clinics to students and coaches.
• Maintains all tennis courts.
• Manages Tennis personnel, adhereing to all applicable local, state, and federal policies and employment law.
• Performs related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Thorough knowledge of tennis rules, equipment, and methods of play.
• Considerable knowledge of accounting and business methods used in operations of the Tennis Center.
• Ability to teach and demonstrate correct tennis technique.
• Ability to hire, develop and retain a diverse group of employees.
• Ability to stimulate interest in tennis within the community and to promote tournaments and tennis activities.
• Use of computers, office equipment, and software applications.
• Knowledge of time management techniques with the ability to organize, schedule, assign, delegate and coordinate to ensure completion of goals and objectives.
• Ability to display tact and courtesy in dealing with the public.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with other employees, and the general public.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education or any other related program, and considerable work experience in tennis teaching, coaching, and advanced tournament play, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements:
Valid Driver’s License

Salary:
$36,628.80 – $60,444.80 annually.
