Head Men’s & Women’s Tennis Coach
University in New Orleans, Louisiana is looking for a Head Men’s & Women’s Tennis Coach.
Position Overview:
The Head Men’s/Women’s Tennis Coach is responsible for initiating various aspects of the men’s/women’s tennis program, such as recruiting, scheduling opponents, training and coaching team members. The Head Men’s/Women’s Tennis Coach is required to abide by the rules and regulations established by the University, the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC), and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
Reporting Relationships — This position reports directly to the Athletic Director, who reports to the Office of the President.
Work Schedule: Days and hours worked are flexible, providing that you devote enough time to your position to ensure that all responsibilities are being fulfilled in a timely manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Become familiar with and abide by all the sanctioned rules and regulations of the University, the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference, and the NAIA.
2. Become familiar with and abide by the academic mission of the university and the employee handbook.
3. Works closely with the Athletic Director keeping him/her abreast of all planning, organizing, staff, and development of all aspects of the tennis program.
4. Manage a fiscally sound budget.
5. Attend all the athletic department staff meetings.
6. Generate additional funds for support of the program.
7. Make recommendations in regard to fundraising, promotion and marketing of programs and activities.
8. Participate in fundraising, promotion and marketing efforts for the University and the athletics department.
9. Complete other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.
Academics
1. Supports the academic development and graduation of players including monitoring of student-athlete academic progress.
2. Identifies and understands student-athlete academic issues and student-athlete needs while trying to improve retention rates.
Competition:
1. Field a competitive men’s basketball team by recruiting quality scholar-athletes.
2. Organize and schedule practice sessions.
3. Schedule games with approval of Athletic Director.
4. Develops values of discipline and sportsmanship to properly represent the University athletics mission and commitment to the 5 core values of the Champions of Character program.
5. Managing all aspects of game preparation and game situations.
6. Responsible for developing scouting reports and pre-competition evaluations of opponents.
7. Attend all practices and games.
Civic Engagement:
1. Serve as a director of special projects and as such, is responsible for the development, organization and teaching of the program.
2. Social media engagement.
Communication:
1. Builds and maintains effective relationships with student-athletes, coaches, staff and faculty.
2. Works with staff, coaches and student-athletes to achieve department goals.
3. Serve as a positive role model and embrace the Champions of Character program that encourages leading lives of respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership, and sportsmanship.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervises one assistant coach, student assistants, and student managers.
Required Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in physical education, recreation, health, or related field (Master’s Degree preferred).
2. 4-5 years experience as an assistant major sport coach (College level) or high school Head Coach.
3. Knowledge of NAIA rules and regulations.
4. Demonstrated ability of commitment to the academic success of scholar-athletes with emphasis on graduation success.
5. Experience in motivating players and staff to achieve maximum levels of performance.
6. Evidence of ability to interact positively with scholar-athletes, parents, colleagues and the public, understanding the importance of interaction with all levels of support groups and fundraising efforts.
7. Demonstrated professional behavior.
8. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing, presentations, and interpersonal contacts.
9. Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records and reports.
10. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work well with supervisor, coworkers, University community, and the public.
11. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, and Sport Statistical Software (Dakstats/Statcrew).
12. Ability to work with minimal guidance but with keen appreciation for the professional obligation to timely inform, update, respond to, adhere to, and effectively address goals and issues identified by the Athletic Director.
