Director of Racquet Sports
Club in New York City is looking for a full-time Director of Racquet Sports.

Position Overview:
The Director of Racquet Sports will be highly motivated and driven to succeed, member-oriented, and possess strong organizational skills, to promote and build the racquets program. Reporting to the General Manager, and working with the Committee, the new Director will work with club staff, including seven assistant professionals and Emeritus Professional, to develop and deliver a full-service, private club program for members, and guests.

Essential Functions and Expectations:
The Director of Racquet Sports will design a variety of instructional and social offerings for members of all playing abilities, including private lessons and group clinics for Juniors & Adults. This role is responsible for the design and execution of member tournaments, social mixers, special events with a major focus on planning and developing the Tennis Program.

Essential Functions of the position include:
• Provide a high level of instruction to members. Lessons are expected to be designed to meet the interest and physical ability of each student and should be focused on involving as many members as possible. Therefore, group instruction is an important consideration, including cardio-focused programs with up to (8) players on a court.
• Design programs specifically to attract new players to Tennis, Pickleball and Platform Tennis. Approximately 75% of the Director’s time should be focused on the development, planning and supervision of the business and programs, and 25% of the Director’s time should be focused on conducting lessons and clinics.
• Take a leadership role and ownership of the racquet sports program while supervising all play and proper charging of fees and rental equipment.
• Create a full calendar of racquet sports programming for members on a monthly basis.
• Plan and manage the Annual Club tournament and Annual Dinner Program.
• Provide and sustain amenity appearance and maintenance to the highest level of club expectations.
• Promote the Club locally and nationally, for the purpose of enhancing membership value and membership subscriptions.
• Maximize participation among members and increase daily court usage during non-prime hours.
• Build a full-service junior program for all levels. Pathways need to be implemented for Juniors to reach higher levels. Create a welcoming environment for each student by providing a friendly approach. Ensure that the students are fully engaged at all times.
• Build upon the growing popularity of Pickleball or Spec Tennis, including the development of specific clinics, events and competitive play.
• Oversee the enhancement of current pro shop offerings and ensure availability of a variety of racquets, paddles, apparel and accessories, providing high value for members.
• Manage member communication on a timely basis and explore additional options such as group texts, or other new technologies which provide real-time updates on special events, clinics or new programs.
• Be adept at utilizing the club’s computer-based registration program, and be comfortable using social media for Club marketing.
• Diplomatically enforce and adhere to all club rules and etiquette. Be the leader in setting the example. The Director will continue to maintain the professionalism of the all-white clothing regulations, and will personally arrive at the Club each day in Casual Business attire.
• Ensure accurate and timely member charges. Monitors business volume forecast and plans accordingly in areas of manpower, productivity, costs, and other expenses.
• Oversee court maintenance and facility cleanliness including bathrooms, locker room, and pro shop. Ensure proper inspections are completed on a daily basis of the facilities prior to the start of play, and that all necessary maintenance has been performed.
• Hire, train, mentor, and manage a staff that is professional and knowledgeable including the Tennis Reservations Manager, the team of instructors and maintenance vendors. Assure that effective orientation and training are given to each new team member while also developing ongoing training programs. Work cooperatively with other departments to develop combined programs for the membership.
• Play tennis at a high level, possibly with the intention of competing in regional or national tournaments.

• Playing ability of NTRP 5.0+ (UTR 10-12+ Male or 8-10+ Female).
• Experience in teaching pickleball with certification by either the IPTPA or PPR.
• Experience in teaching platform tennis with certification by either PPTA or PPTR.
• Previous experience as a Director of Tennis in a private club program, or an accomplished and ambitious Head Professional with relevant and extended experience reporting to the Director of Tennis, who is prepared and ready for their first Director of Tennis role.
• A demonstrable history of participation and commitment to the tennis industry.
• A proven and enthusiastic spirit for the private club industry and for member service.
USPTA Elite or Master Professional Certification (or PTR equivalent) and verifiable ongoing participation in industry Continuing Education programs.
• A Bachelor’s Degree. (Candidates who do not meet this criterion but have demonstrable success and extensive, specific experience in a similar private club environment will be considered).

Compensation / Benefits / Professional Support:
• Compensation shall be structured to include a very competitive salary, plus bonus, and a percentage of the revenue generated from instruction.
• Relocation assistance will be provided if necessary.
• The Director of Racquet Sports will be expected to roughly 25%-30% of their time to ‘on-court teaching.
• A benefits package is offered which includes health and dental insurance, 401(k) with matching and an allowance for continuing education and association dues.
• Total Compensation, including salary, bonus, teaching, 401K match, and benefits, may exceed $250,000 annually.
