Director of Racquet Sports
Club in Chicago, Illinois is looking for a Director of Racquet Sports.

Position Overview:
The Director of Racquets reports to the General Manager and works in close cooperation with the Racquets Committee and its Chair.

Essential Functions and Expectations:
The Director of Racquets will design a variety of instructional and social offerings for members of all playing abilities, including private lessons and group clinics for Juniors & Adults for Tennis, Paddle & Pickleball. This role is responsible for the design and execution of member tournaments, social mixers, special events with a major focus on planning and developing the Tennis, Paddle & Pickleball programs in a fun, enthusiastic and member-focused atmosphere. Essential functions of the position include:
• Construct and supervise vibrant programs for each of the three sports: tennis, paddle and pickleball.
• Ensure that all programs are periodically refreshed with innovative approaches to learning, instructing, and playing socially and competitively.
• Encourage member play by proactively and regularly reaching out to members to encourage and facilitate participation in all racquet sports.
• Contact new members to ensure a seamless integration into racquet sports programs.
• Facilitate the introduction of members of similar ability to encourage and assist in the scheduling of play.
• Provide clinics, drills, and lessons at appropriate levels for the membership.
• Run a summer camp for children.
• Organize and implement inter-club, league, and intra-club play as appropriate.
• Proactively plan, organize and implement social events as appropriate in cooperation with the racquets committee.
• Hire, supervise, and mentor assistant professionals to ensure a consistent and professional level of service and communication to members from all racquet sports staff.
• Maintain well run tennis and paddle houses, terraces, and grounds, to ensure cleanliness, tidiness, appropriate behavior, and safety.
• Oversee and manage the pro shop offerings and ensure availability of a variety of racquets, paddles, apparel and accessories, providing high value for members.
• Oversee and supervise court maintenance and ensure facility cleanliness.
• Implement all the club policies, including as appropriate, player assessments and fees, and ensure that all staff enforce Club rules, including as applied to appropriate attire and cell phone policy.

Qualifications: Personal Traits/Experience/Education/Certification:
• Provides service and engagement to/with the membership, demonstrating enthusiasm for all racquet sports, members, and the Director role.
• Maintains interest of existing racquets players and improves participation among others, for all three types of racquets programs.
• Provides Leadership and Accountability for all racquets programs.
• Responsive to member needs, creates an environment to enhance member experience, create programs and events to serve members, and develops relationships with schools with premier tennis programs to feed new assistant pros into Club service.
• Understands the unique culture of the Club with a strong family orientation.
• Creates/maintains a welcoming program in which all interested members can participate, learn, grow as players, connect and compete effectively in their respective sports to the extent that they wish.
• Tennis playing ability of NTRP 5.0+ (UTR 10-12+ Male or 8-10+ Female).
• A Strong Paddle player, who understands the game and has the ability to teach members of all abilities, including new players.
USPTA Elite or Master Professional Certification (or PTR equivalent) and verifiable ongoing participation in industry Continuing Education programs.
• Must possess/exhibit the following characteristics/traits: integrity, accountability, maturity, clear and logical thinking, authenticity, strong communication skills and natural enthusiasm.
• Operationally skilled and experienced in business operations, budget forecasting, and capital budgets.
• Exhibits strong teaching skills and has the ability to effectively improve student players, regardless of their level, and to coach assistants to be more effective instructors themselves.
• Willingness to work collaboratively with the General Manager, process member feedback, and accept suggestions to improve programs.
• A true love for people, hospitality, and racquet sports.
• Experience with introducing a variety of organized social events for all racquet sports.
• Understands the merchandising and operations of a retail shop.
• Demonstrates clear, concise, compelling, timely, and frequent communication skills.
• Bachelor’s Degree. (Candidates who do not meet this criterion but have demonstrable success and extensive, specific experience in a similar private club environment will be considered).

Compensation/Benefits/Professional Support:
• Compensation shall be structured to include a very competitive base salary, plus bonus, and a percentage of the revenue generated from instruction.
• Relocation expenses will be offered.
• The Director of Racquets will be expected to dedicate roughly 20-25 hours of their time per week to ‘on-court’ teaching.
• A very attractive benefits package is offered which includes health, dental and vision insurance, a 401k with matching contribution, meals, complimentary parking, education allowance and paid time off.
