Tennis Center Operations General Manager
University in Binghamton, New York is looking for a Tennis Center Operations General Manager.

Position Overview:
Create, Coordinate, Manage

-Responsible for the coordination and oversight of all tennis program offerings including: contracts, lessons, Junior Pathway programs, USTA Leagues, tournaments and special events. The goal is to develop a robust schedule of programming that responds to the needs of the University, membership, and community. – Create a responsive and efficient facility schedule including the scheduling of varsity tennis practices/matches, all court usage, tennis programs, tournaments dates, and facility rentals. – Provide guidance for any and all issues surrounding tennis programming including staffing hires/issues, facility/equipment upkeep and activity schedules. – Oversee and periodically evaluate the instruction in all programs. Ensure quality instruction, fidelity to tennis curriculum, and responsive instructor support. – Maintain accurate program statistics, reports and data by using Club Automation software and other files to track membership, facility utilization, program participation and business profitability. This information is critical in providing services, setting facility and staffing schedules, and identifying budgetary considerations. – Monitor and evaluate programs through both formal and informal methods to identify areas in need of improvement and/or new programs to be added. – Assist supervisor and marketing team with promotion of the center’s programs and services. Research external funding opportunities to promote engagement and programming growth.

Lead and Manage

- Assist supervisor by providing direct oversight and support of all club operations, the patron experience and lead by example by providing quality customer service and conflict resolution. – Responsible for supervision (interviewing, hiring, scheduling, training, and evaluating) of all instructional staff including: Assistant and Junior Pros, Adult Development Coordinator and Junior Development Coordinator, hourly tennis instructors and camp assistants. – Responsible for monitoring compensation of and approving payroll on bi-weekly basis for all instructional staff within wage and hour guidelines. – Assure that training, education, and procedures are aligned with the center’s and larger campus goals such as safety and risk management, sustainability strategies and core values. – Articulate and enforce a compelling vision around participant and family engagement. Emphasis should be on training team members on appropriate procedures, policies and language pertaining to interactions with the public. Emphasis should be placed on maintaining an environment of inclusivity. – Assist with the club’s fiscal management through purchase recommendations/procurement, expenditure projections and pricing/compensation structure. – Coordinate with supervisor on the cleanliness, maintenance and safety of center and equipment; provide guidance on issues surrounding tennis equipment or court maintenance. – - – Assist with the installation of new equipment, as well as manage the continued coordination of present equipment and facility repairs & maintenance.

Culture and Leadership

- Partnering with the university, leadership and staff, promote a healthy and positive working, social and recreational environment for all employees and members. – Customer service issues regarding altercations/disturbances, incidents/accidents, failure to comply with policy, or staff non-compliance with facility policies and standards should be handled in an appropriate manner representative of the university’s mission and objectives and brought to the attention of the supervisor immediately. – Hold regular individual and collaborative team meetings for staff to ensure a working understanding of functions and responsibilities and promote continuing education opportunities. – Be prepared to assist with training, instruction/lessons, classes, workshop sessions or other programs. – Participate in all organizational training, retreats and meetings as scheduled. – Actively pursue professional growth through participation in educational seminars and professional organizations to enhance job performance and to provide career development. The expectation is that this will be done in collaboration and after consultation with the supervisor. Stay abreast of current trends within the tennis industry. – Must be or become CPR/AED and First Aid certified, complete annual compliance training including PCI-DSS (Payment Card Industry- Data Security Standards) training and fulfill USTA Safe Play and/or NYS Child Protection requirements once a year as a condition of employment.

Requirements: – Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in recreation, sport management, or related field. – A minimum of two years professional experience supervising employees, interns, and/or volunteers in a recreation or business setting; and/or as professional planning, implementing, and supervising a variety of instructional programs. – Excellent organizational, administrative, communication, leadership, decision-making skills are essential, as well as the ability to work individually and in a team setting. – Must be open to a flexible work schedule including evening and weekend obligations. – Experience working with membership management and reservation software packages; familiarization with Club Automation is helpful. – As conditions of employment, employees: Must pass a background check and must provide written acknowledgement of receipt and understanding of the Employee Handbook and agree to comply with all policies and guidance therein.

The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the State University of New York Policy No. 6504, Policy on Mandatory Reporting and Prevention Child Sexual Abuse, 2012.

Preferred Skills – Master’s degree – Tennis playing and/or tennis teaching experience at various levels
USPTA certified professional Level 2 (or PTR equivalent) or higher

Additional Information:
Salary Range: $65,000 – $75,000 annually
