Director of Racquets
Club in Austin, Texas is looking for a Director of Racquets.

Position Overview:
The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with the Club leadership to design the future of Westwood’s racquets program, which includes players of all ages and levels. This role is responsible for the design and execution of member tournaments, social mixers, and special events with a major focus on delivering the racquets programs in a fun and enthusiastic atmosphere. He or she must be enthusiastic, self-motivated and have an outgoing, friendly personality. He or she must possess outstanding communication and organizational skills, as well as reliability, diligence, and racquets knowledge.

Essential Job Functions: including but not limited to

Employee Management – Hire, train, mentor and manage a staff that is professional and knowledgeable. Ensure that effective orientation welcomes each new team member, and that training is provided on an ongoing basis. Work cooperatively with other departments to develop combined programs for the membership. – Ensure day-to-day racquets operations run smoothly and efficiently through visible management presence and leadership. – Process, review and submit payroll for all racquets staff. – Responsible for implementation of all laws, regulations and policies regarding employment practices, safety rules and all other company policies and procedures. – Promotes the club’s safety goals and actively works towards ensuring a safe working environment.

Racquets Management – The creation, development, and implementation of programming for the racquets department including private lessons, clinics, leagues, tournaments, programs and events for all ages and abilities. – Takes a leadership role and ownership of the racquets program while supervising all play in accordance with Committee instructions. – Manages and upholds club regulations and standards pertaining to playing on club courts. – Provides a high level of instruction to members. Lessons are expected to be designed to meet the interest and physical ability of each student and should be focused on involving as many members as possible at every level of play. – Arranges tournaments and unique events to foster fellowship at the Club; actively promotes play among members. – Assures that there are programs in place to serve the needs of the entire membership (adults and juniors). – Evaluates new members’ abilities and extends a warm welcome to them into the club community.

Financial – Manages financial performance of the racquets program through achievement of sales and revenue targets, expense management, proper planning and forecasting, and retention including ensuring all lesson & program charges are inputted accurately and timely. – Reviews, approves, and submits proper administrative and compensation paperwork prior to payroll approval. – Develops and executes an annual operating budget after receiving the required approval. – Inform the Committee and General Manager regarding equipment and facility replacement and capital budgeting status. – Offers recommendations to the Committee regarding proper club programming based on the number of courts, the number of staff members, and the amount of funds required for operational management.
Communication and Relationships – Works cooperatively with other departments to develop combined programs for the membership with proactive, enthusiastic, and passionate energy. – Collaborates with the Pro Shop Director to ensure the enhancement of current pro shop offerings and availability of a variety of racquets, apparel, and accessories, providing high value for members. – Maintains a positive and professional image in the community that enhances the image of the Club. – Collaborates with the Director of House and Grounds to ensure proper inspection of the facilities is completed prior to the start of play, and that all necessary maintenance, repair, and cleaning has been performed. – Manages member communication on a timely basis with enthusiasm and excitement while coordinating racquets related communication for the Club’s newsletter, website, and social media approved by management. – Performs other duties as assigned by the General Manager.

Characteristics and Position Requirements: – Willingness and capability to promote the Club and club membership. – Proven experience in organizing tournaments, team and league play, clinics, camps, and special programs for members of all ages and abilities. – Provide energy and creativity to the program while exhibiting patience, firmness, and diplomacy. – A proven and enthusiastic spirit for the private club industry and for member service. – A true love for people, hospitality, and racquet sports. – Highly driven and motivated work ethic. – Service-oriented, meticulous, and action-oriented. – Skilled, kind and an effective communicator and teacher.

Preferred Education and/or Experience:
Previous experience as a Director of Racquets in a private club program, or an accomplished and ambitious Head Professional with relevant experience reporting to the Director of Racquets, who is prepared and ready for their first Director of Racquets role.
Bachelor’s Degree (Candidates who do not meet this criterion but have demonstrable success and extensive, specific experience in a similar private club environment will be considered)
Experience in training competitive players, pro shop management, facility management, and other business management activities including human relations, hiring, budgets, communications, and professional management team skills.

Accomplished in teaching, playing, and other compre¬hensive attributes of the racquet professionals world. Must be professionally certified.
