Club in Jekyll Island, Georgia is looking for a full-time Head Tennis Professional.
Position Overview:
Job Title: Head Tennis Professional
Department/Division: Tennis / Amenities
Status: Regular, Full-time (year-round position)
Pay: $48,000 – $54,000 Annual Salary (DOQ) plus percentage of lessons
Reports to: Senior Director of Amenities
Benefits: Full Benefits eligible including health insurance, flex benefits, 10 paid holidays, vacation and sick leave accrual, amenities and parking pass.
Retirement: State Employee Retirement System – GSEPS (Pension plus matching 401k)
Job Summary:
Under limited supervision, the Head Tennis Professional’s responsibilities include coordinating all tennis events, scheduling and providing tennis lessons, clinics, directing tournaments, directing court maintenance, and maintaining the point-of-sale system for ticketing and retail.
Duties:
Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff.
Manages the tennis center operations by running USTA tournaments and leagues according to regulations, providing lessons, clinics, by providing tennis programming for all ages, and books court times, etc.
Ensures that tennis facility receives the necessary maintenance and repair work, which includes all tennis courts, buildings, and grounds. Understands clay court maintenance and the irrigation system.
Prepares an annual budget and strives to operate the tennis center within the set budget parameters; works to increase tennis center revenues and participation.
Maintains a list of capital projects and equipment needs.
Manages the operations of the tennis center pro shop; monitors sales, orders merchandise, maintains inventory records, maintains the point of sale/ticketing software, and reconciles sales operations.
Attends various meetings and seminars to remain informed regarding United States Tennis Association requirements for hosting tournaments and leagues; works with marketing to prepare and distribute information regarding upcoming events.
Acts as tournament director by performing the duties of referee and NTRP verifier; obtains necessary certification on an annual basis.
Works with other clubs when coordinating leagues and matches and implements new methods of operations as needed.
Performs various public relations duties to market the tennis center.
Works with the JIA retail team for merchandising and retail growth.
Provides customer service to all guests in a professional and courteous manner.
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Minimum of three (3) years as a tennis professional with teaching and programming experience required.
Valid USTPA/PTR Tennis Professional Certification
USTA Tournament Director a plus
CPR Certification.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to understand budget, handle administrative tasks, and work collaboratively with other departments.
Ability to operate computer including Microsoft Office and point-of-sale system.
Must be at least 18 years old
Must have valid drivers license
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
More than 50% of the typical workday may be spent walking, standing, balancing, reaching, and using repetitive motions of the wrists, hands or fingers.
Less than 50% of the typical day is spent stooping and/or crouching, kneeling, pushing and pulling.
Physical stamina and agility to demonstrate tennis techniques and play at a high level.
Sensory abilities required are feeling, grasping and touching with more than 50% of the time spent talking and hearing.
Visual abilities to perform tasks required are to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment and determine the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures.
The majority of the work is conducted outside with exposure to extreme heat, high humidity and occasional adverse weather conditions as well as occasional cold temperatures.
Will be exposed to hazards such as moving mechanical parts and moving carts and/or vehicles.
Noise levels are generally considered normal.
