High Performance Tennis Coach
Tennis Academy in Beaverton, Oregon is looking for a full-time High Performance Tennis Coach.

Position Overview:
Tier 1 Is Expanding Into Beaverton

Tier 1 Performance is the Pacific Northwest’s junior tennis academy. For 15 years we have run our program out of Woodinville Sports Club in Washington, and in that time our system has developed more than 100 athletes who went on to play college tennis on scholarship — at Harvard, Princeton, USC, the University of Washington, and programs across NCAA Division I, II, and III.
Now we are bringing it to Oregon. We are hiring a full-time High Performance Coach to help build it from day one.

The Role
You will lead Tier 1 academy groups at Beaverton, carry a private lesson and player-management book, write development plans for the athletes you manage, travel to tournaments, and own the parent relationships for your players. This is a build role. The Portland pipeline starts from scratch — the groups, the culture, the competitive calendar, and the first cohort of athletes on a college track. If you would rather build a program than inherit one, this is that job. You will report to the Director of Tennis at Beaverton and coach from the same methodology as our Woodinville staff, with direct access to Tier 1’s directors and senior coaches. The position maps to Performance Coach or Senior Performance Coach on our coach advancement ladder, set at hire based on experience.

What You’ll Do
Plan and independently lead Tier 1 academy groups across the pathway, from Foundations through our high-performance yellow-ball training.
Coach from the Tier 1 methodology: high-volume, intentional training that builds technique, tactics, physical preparation, competitive habits, and accountability. Every drill has a purpose.
Hold every athlete to the standard for their group. We develop the player to meet the standard rather than lowering it to fit the player.
Write and manage individual development plans, run player assessments, and move athletes up the pathway as they earn it.
Carry a private lesson and player-management book for athletes committed to Tier 1 as their primary training environment. Support adult clinics and lessons as needed.
Travel to tournaments — roughly four or more events a year depending on your groups — and manage match development plans, on-site coaching, and post-match review.
Own your parent conversations: proactive, direct, and professional, including the hard ones about placement, effort, and realistic timelines.
Help stand up the Portland program — evaluations for new applicants, group formation, high school and university relationships, open houses, and clinic days.
Mentor developing coaches, contribute in coach meetings, and keep standards consistent with our Woodinville staff.

What We’re Looking For
A meaningful competitive playing background — collegiate, professional, or high-level national junior.
Three or more years coaching junior tennis, including independent responsibility for competitive groups.
Player-development results you can point to: athletes who moved up levels, improved UTR, made varsity, or committed to college programs.

Ability to coach the full pathway — red, orange, green, and yellow ball through high-performance juniors.
Confident, professional communication with parents.
Availability for a junior-tennis schedule: weekday afternoons and evenings, weekend mornings, and tournament travel.
Authorization to work in the U.S., a valid driver’s license, and successful background and SafeSport screening before working with minors.

Nice To Have
PTR, USPTA, or GPTCA certification, or a clear plan to complete one.
Experience inside a structured academy with defined levels, curriculum, and assessment cycles.
Familiarity with USTA Pacific Northwest, UTR, ITF junior events, and NCAA recruiting.
Strength and conditioning background — the club includes a dedicated performance space.

Why Come Coach Here
A proven system, not a blank page. Fifteen years of methodology, curriculum, and assessment tools behind you, with 100+ college-scholarship athletes as proof it works.

A real career ladder. Defined coach levels with published advancement criteria, quarterly reviews, and pay increases earned through measurable player-development impact rather than tenure.
Ground-floor ownership. A new club, a new pipeline, and genuine input into how Tier 1 Portland gets built.

Support behind your athletes. College recruiting through American College Placement, sports nutrition guidance, and Babolat training center resources.

Coaches to learn from. Shared coach education, internal training, and direct access to Tier 1 directors and senior coaches across both campuses.
