Club in Vero Beach, Florida is looking for a Seasonal Racquets Professional.

Position Overview:
Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club is a private member-owned Club, recognized as a Distinguished Club™ and designated as a Platinum Club of America. Located in the Town of Orchid, Florida, just north of Vero Beach, this community is beautifully situated on 600 acres from the ocean to the river. Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club offers the best of life in Vero Beach—three spectacular dining venues, over a mile of private beach, tennis and pickleball courts, a fitness center, spa, and an outstanding Arnold Palmer designed golf course.

Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club has a seasonal position for a Racquets Professional, for the months of October 17, 2024 through May 9, 2025. The Racquets Professional assists in organizing and directing all Club tennis activities, events, exhibitions, tournaments, mixers, and lessons, while conducting themselves in a professional & friendly manner. While some pickleball responsibility is to be expected, this position will focus with a high priority on the tennis side of the racquets operation.

Orchid Island Racquet Sports Facilities
The Club has eight sub-surface Har-Tru tennis courts (two courts are lighted), including one exhibition court. The club recently finished a multi-million-dollar sports complex including 6 state of the art pickleball courts, 2 bocce lanes, a croquet lawn, and full-service social pavilion. The Orchid Island Racquet Sports facilities also include a high-volume pro shop and fitness center.

Orchid Island Golf and Beach Club Seasonal Racquets Professional
Position Overview
The Racquets Professional demonstrates a high-level of proficiency in playing and teaching while ensuring member satisfaction and assisting with our diverse racquet sports program which include: tournaments, clinics, round robins, interclub teams, social events, and other racquets related activities. This position is expected to hold 25-30 hours weekly and will engage in an active, morning-afternoon shift. Additionally, the Racquets Professional will demonstrate the following:

• Act as a passionate ambassador for the games of tennis.
• Provide lessons and clinics to members and guests on the techniques and strategies of tennis. under the guidance of the Director of Racquet Sports.
• Greet and provide service to members when inside and on duty. This includes pro shop sales, front desk duties, game arranging, phone calls and computer work to assist in the overall success of the tennis and pickleball program.
• Organize team practice schedules and league schedules with Team Captains and league officials. Assure the organization of courts players, opposing teams, and refreshments are properly arranged. Watch and critique matches and attend away matches when possible.
• Organize and occasionally participate in Men’s Day, Ladies’ Day, Mixed Doubles Day, and all Mixers.
• Assist in the organization of all Club tournaments and events.
• Share court maintenance daily duties and assume all responsibilities on facility manager’s days off including, but not limited to:
o Brush courts.
o Perform closing duties, umbrellas, chairs health bar, and puts lesson balls and ball machines away as well as groom courts if time permits.
• String rackets when needed and make light racket repairs.
• Provide all members and guests with courteous, prompt and professional attention at all times.

Job Knowledge, Core Competencies and Expectations
A successful candidate should possess the following attributes:
• Able to successfully lead, engage and promote team tennis practices.
• The ability to solicit new clients and maintain a full book of tennis lessons for the season.
• A desire to become a Head Professional or Director of Racquets.

Education and/or Experience
The ideal candidate should be an engaging, welcoming, and energetic professional with the following criteria:
• Undergraduate major in Physical Education or Sports Management desirable.
• Collegiate team experience desirable, with a 5.0 or above rating.
• Two to three years competitive playing experience and/or tennis supervisory experience.
• Knowledge of court maintenance.
• Certification with either U.S. Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) or Professional. Tennis Registry (PTR) desirable.
• USPTA Pickleball certification, preferred.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
• Able to meet and perform the physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position.
• Ability to control natural swing speed during instruction or matches with inexperienced players.
• Sufficient stamina to tolerate hot and humid outdoor weather for several consecutive hours.
• Continuous standing, walking, running, bending, stooping and repetitive actions.
• Frequent use of light machinery and hand-held tools.
• Frequent lifting and moving objects.
