Director of Racquets
Club in Providence, Rhode Island is looking for a Director of Racquets.

Schedule: 5-6 days per week

About Agawam Hunt
Founded in 1897, Agawam Hunt is one of the original 25 USGA Member Clubs. Located minutes from downtown Providence, it is a family-friendly, year-round club featuring some of New England’s finest recreational facilities. Our amenities include a historic Donald Ross-designed golf course and racquets facilities with 2 indoor hard courts, 4 outdoor Har-Tru courts, 10 grass courts, 3 squash courts, and 2 newly added platform courts. Agawam hosts several prestigious grass-court tournaments annually.

Position Summary
The Director of Racquets will collaborate closely with the General Manager to create and oversee a comprehensive racquets program that encompasses tennis, pickleball, platform tennis, and squash. Responsibilities include creating and managing instructional programs, setting lesson fees, overseeing court usage, handling office administration, operating the tennis shop, and organizing social programs. Programming is broad-based to include, mens, ladies, juniors, and co-ed programming. Director of Racquets will administer and organize USTA events, Nike camps, club summer camps as well as interclub and member competitions.

General Responsibilities
Supervise all racquets play and activities as directed and defined by the General Manager and Tennis Committee.
Manage the charging of court fees and other privilege fees.
Provide high-quality tennis and pickleball instruction for all levels and groups of players.
Assist in hiring and supervising personnel such as assistant professionals, shop staff, and maintenance personnel.
Enforce club rules and regulations regarding the use of facilities and equipment by different membership types.
Maintain a well-managed pro shop with quality merchandise and services.
Foster strong relationships with other club departments, including golf, food and beverage, and the golf course superintendent.
Encourage racquets participation by planning engaging events, clinics, and educational programs.
Organize teams for USTA Leagues and other appropriate programs as allowed via club parameters.
Represent the club in professional racquets activities, including USPTA meetings, tournaments, and other state or national tennis events with management approval.
Program Management
Ensure racquets programs cater to all members, including juniors, adults, and seniors.
Organize special events to engage and retain members.
Provide instruction ranging from beginner to advanced levels.
Offer educational opportunities to enhance members’ enjoyment of racquet sports.
Assist in the preparation of an annual calendar of racquets activities and the weekly distribution of event updates and marketing.
Provide lessons and clinics for tennis, pickleball, squash, and platform to both adult and junior members.
Organize junior competitions and interclub play, ladder events, round robins, and other programming to keep our juniors engaged past and beyond grade school and Intermediate school age.
Organize a comprehensive Club Pickleball Championship, Squash Championship, Tennis Championship and Platform Championship and related social events for Juniors and Adults.
Assist in preparing the annual racquets budget.
Attend and represent the Racquets Department at weekly department head meetings.
Ensure accurate member charges are recorded in the club’s point-of-sale system.
Ensure all racquets-related news for the club newsletter and email communications is accurate and up-to-date.
Maintenance and Facilities
Inspect courts and facilities daily to ensure necessary maintenance is completed.
Supervise personnel responsible for facility upkeep and ensure they are properly trained.
Ensure maintenance equipment is available and properly maintained.
Communicate with management regarding facility and equipment needs for budgeting purposes.
Ensure that all racquets facilities are clean and presentable at all times.
Is the person in charge of facilities upkeep and general presentation
Pro Shop Operations
Maintain the pro shop in a clean and presentable condition.
Oversee pro shop operations, including setting hours of operation in coordination with management.
Manage merchandise levels to meet the needs of members.
Coordinate with the club’s accounting system to ensure smooth billing operations.
Tournament Management
Collaborate with management to plan and organize racquet tournaments.
Ensure adequate staffing and support for events.
Promote tournaments to members and the public.
Coordinate match schedules and officiate events as necessary.
Oversee event preparation, including securing draw sheets, scorecards, and necessary supplies.
Work with other departments to offer additional amenities for participants.
Prepare post-tournament reports detailing event outcomes for management.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Proven expertise in teaching tennis at a high level.

Skills Required:
Strong knowledge of managing a quality racquets program.
Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with both adults and children, with professionalism.
Demonstrated professionalism and a commitment to excellence in teaching and program management.

Physical Demands
The role requires regular physical activity, including sitting, standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, and crouching. The ability to lift up to 25 pounds and perform physical activities such as running may also be required. The position requires excellent vision, including depth perception and peripheral vision.

Work Environment
This role frequently involves exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including extreme heat, and requires working in a noisy environment.
