Club in Ruxton, Maryland is looking for a Head Racquets Professional.
Position Overview:
Job Summary (Essential Functions)
The Head Racquets Professional will organize and direct all racquet sports activities at the club, including tennis, paddle, and pickleball. This individual will oversee events, tournaments, lessons, and activities while maintaining the highest standards of service and professionalism across all racquet disciplines.
Education and/or Experience
• Undergraduate major in Physical Education, Sports Management, or related field desirable.
• Collegiate team experience in tennis, paddle, or pickleball desirable, preferably with a 4.5 or above rating in tennis.
• 2-3 years of competitive playing experience or racquets supervisory experience (Tennis and Paddle). Pickleball a plus.
• Experience in running junior development programs for tennis, paddle, and pickleball.
• Knowledge of court maintenance and equipment care.
• At least four years of experience in retail sales of sporting goods or racquet sport equipment recommended.
• Experience in developing, teaching, and managing racquet sport programs.
Job Knowledge, Core Competencies and Expectations
• Able to promote and teach private and group lessons for tennis, paddle, and pickleball to juniors and adults, on indoor and outdoor courts with various surface types (hard, soft, artificial turf).
• Ability to perform duties as a competitive player and/or representative in Pro-Ams for all racquet sports.
• Ability to string racquets, re-grip, and perform minor repairs to tennis, paddle, and pickleball equipment.
• Knowledge of club rules and policies for racquet sports.
• Ability to perform required roles during emergency situations, including safety and injury protocol.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with members, guests, and staff effectively.
• Solid understanding of customer service and delivering exceptional experience for racquet sports enthusiasts.
Job Tasks/Duties
• Organize and Lead Instructional Programs: Work with the Director to develop, plan, and direct tennis, paddle, and pickleball lesson programs for juniors and adults. Provide private, group, and clinic lessons.
• Tournaments and Social Events: Be available to assist in organizing, administering, and officiating at racquets tournaments, exhibitions, and intra- or inter-club social events. Ensure smooth event execution.
• Court Maintenance and Equipment: Work closely with the Director to ensure racquet courts are in top condition. Perform equipment maintenance such as stringing and re-gripping.
• Racquets Shop: Assist in managing the racquets shop, including input in product selection, sales, and customer service.
• Staff Management: Supervise the Assistant Racquets Professionals and other staff. Ensure adequate scheduling and provide ongoing feedback and performance evaluations to the Director of Racquets.
• Member Engagement: Market and promote racquet sports activities, including clinics, lessons, and special events, to ensure maximum participation and member satisfaction.
• Safety and Compliance: Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and ensure staff follows club policies and legal regulations. Be prepared for emergency situations and ensure racquet facilities meet health and safety standards.
• Collaborate with Other Departments: Work with the Food & Beverage, Banquet, and Catering teams to support events and provide a complete experience for members and guests.
• Represent the Club: Act as a representative of the club in local, regional, or national tennis, paddle, and pickleball activities. Maintain visibility within the local and professional community.
• Administrative Duties: Maintain accurate records for lessons, events, and any racquet-related activities. Prepare monthly written reports for the Director of Racquets, on activities, events, and progress.
• Continual Learning & Growth: Stay updated on the latest trends, techniques, and certifications in tennis, paddle, and pickleball. Continually improve personal knowledge in racquet sports.
• Perform other Duties as assigned.
Licenses and Special Requirements
• Certification with Racquet Sports Professionals Association (RSPA, formerly the USPTA), Professional Tennis Registry (PTR), or a similar organization for tennis, pickleball, and paddle.
• RSPA (formerly the USPTA) P1 or higher rating for tennis (preferred).
• Certification or coaching credentials for pickleball and paddle (preferred).
• Player ability equal to NCAA Division 1 or professional-level in one or more racquet sports (Tennis, Paddle, Pickleball).
Physical Demands and Work Environment
• Ability to control natural swing speed during instruction or matches, particularly with inexperienced players.
• Daily court maintenance which includes watering, sweeping, and lining the courts.
• Sufficient stamina to tolerate extended outdoor exposure to varying weather conditions (hot, humid, or cold).
• Frequent standing, walking, running, bending, stooping, and repetitive actions.
• Occasional lifting of racquets, equipment, and other materials up to 25 pounds.
• Exposure to noise and activity typical of a busy club environment.
• Ability to work on weekends and evenings, as racquet sports events and lessons often take place during peak leisure hours.
• 15-20 hours on court, per week.
Highly Competitive Salary and Benefits
• $45,000 – $55,000 base salary – commensurate with experience, plus lessons and clinics.
• Performance Bonus of up to 10% of salary.
