Job Description
Summary
The Albuquerque Academy Racquet Center is seeking an individual for the position of Racquet Sports Professional (Tennis and/or Pickleball) Levels 1-3. This position reports directly to the Director of Racquet Sports and is responsible for high-quality instruction and administration of new and existing racquet programs, both group and private. Essential Functions
Provide high-quality instruction to players of all ages and skill levels in clinics, private, and group lesson as well as special events.
Develop lesson plans tailored to the needs and skill levels of students.
Conduct player evaluations to assess skill level and development.
Create and organize tennis programs, clinics, and camps for various age groups.
Be engaged and willing to be staffed for all racquet programs.
Plan and execute racquet sport events, tournaments and social activities to engage the racquet sport community.
Consistently demonstrate leadership behaviors consistent with our school and facility values.
Support the school and its mission, always maintaining a high degree of professionalism.
Foster and maintain a culture of mutual respect, equitable practice, and joy.
Demonstrate cultural competence and communicate and collaborate effectively across differences.
Other Responsibilities
Ensure courts, facility and equipment are well maintained, safe, and clean.
Assist in promoting tennis programs and services.
Participate in community outreach to attract new players.
Attend employee meetings as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Level 1:
Additional responsibilities may be assigned based on experience.
Level 2:
Program administration responsibilities may be assigned based on experience.
Level 3:
Program and/or staff administration responsibilities may be assigned based on experience.
Job Qualifications
Education
A Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in a field related to Sport Science.
Coursework in racquet sports is preferred.
Level 1
1-2 years of experience in related field and/or training may be accepted in place of a Bachelor’s degree or in the rare instance of a current high school student at least 16 years of age.
Level 2
1-2 years of experience in related field and/or training may be accepted in place of a Bachelor’s degree.
Level 3
2-3 years of experience in related field and/or training may be accepted in place of a Bachelor’s degree.
Experience
Level 1
At minimum one year of experience in the racquet industry is required.
Previous experience in teaching tennis and/or pickleball is preferred.
Level 2:
At minimum one year of experience in the racquet industry is required. Three years of experience is preferred.
Previous experience in teaching tennis and/or pickleball is preferred.
Level 3:
At minimum three years of experience in the racquet industry is required.
Previous experience in teaching tennis and/or pickleball is preferred.
Previous experience working with budgets and in a lead position is preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge of Microsoft, Apple or Google software products is helpful for any assigned admin duties.
Strong knowledge of tennis fundamentals, techniques, strategies, rules, etc.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of tennis equipment and maintenance.
Sound organizational and administrative skills.
Special Requirements
Certification from a recognized organization is required (USPTA, PTR, etc.). Working towards certification is acceptable.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Working Environment
Majority of work is performed in an outdoor setting at the Albuquerque Academy Racquet Center.
Work hours are generally from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Sunday but will vary seasonally and in collaboration with school programming.
Physical Demands
Standing and moving on court for extended periods of time.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
