Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach
University in Hampton, Virginia is looking for a Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach.
Position Overview:
The Head Tennis Coach is responsible for the leadership, organization, and overall success of the NCAA Division I men’s and/or women’s tennis program. This position provides strategic direction, coaching expertise, and administrative oversight to ensure competitive excellence, academic success, and compliance with NCAA, CAA, and institutional policies. The Head Tennis Coach serves as a mentor and role model, fostering the holistic development of student-athletes.
Examples of Duties
· Plan, organize, and conduct all practices, training sessions, and competitions.
· Provide technical instruction and tactical development for individual and team success.
· Develop individualized training plans to enhance performance, conditioning, and mental toughness.
· Evaluate and manage playing strategies for singles and doubles competition.
· Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes who meet academic, athletic, and character standards.
· Maintain regular communication with prospects, families, club coaches, and high school coaches.
· Coordinate and manage official and unofficial visits in compliance with NCAA and CAA regulations.
· Oversee all aspects of daily program operations, including scheduling, travel, equipment, and uniforms.
· Manage the program budget in coordination with the Athletics Department.
· Supervise and evaluate assistant coaches, graduate assistants, and support staff (if applicable).
· Coordinate facility usage and ensure proper maintenance of tennis courts and related equipment.
· Promote and support academic excellence, retention, and graduation of student-athletes.
· Monitor academic progress and collaborate with academic support services.
· Ensure full compliance with NCAA, CAA, and institutional rules and regulations.
· Complete required compliance education and documentation in a timely manner.
· Promote a culture of integrity, ethical conduct, and student-athlete well-being.
· Represent the university and athletics department positively at conference meetings, community events, and alumni functions.
· Support fundraising, alumni relations, and promotional activities for the tennis program.
Typical Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s degree preferred).
· Minimum of 3–5 years of collegiate coaching experience or equivalent high-level tennis experience.
· Strong knowledge of NCAA Division I and conference rules and regulations.
· Demonstrated success in recruiting and player development.
· Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
· CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain).
