The Property:
Taconnet on Great Pond is a wooded island vacation destination in the northwest corner of Great Pond, a large lake just north of Augusta, Maine. Nestled in the scenic Belgrade Lakes region,
Taconnet offers an idyllic experience of Maine’s natural beauty that is hard to match.
Taconnet on Great Pond, is renowned as a family vacation destination, allowing adults to relax while children participate in various activities. Meals are provided at the central dining hall each day, bringing everyone together up to three times a day. Numerous activities are available both on and off island.
Each of the twelve-unit cabins offers direct access to the lake and is a short walk from the three clay tennis courts and one clay pickleball court. Guests may kayak, canoe, paddle board, fish, bird watch, play tennis and pickleball or read on the property. There is golf and hiking nearby.
Position Overview
The Summer Tennis Program Coordinator position has a rich and storied Taconnet history and was designed and created to provide the best overall enjoyable tennis playing experience for both guests and owners.
• Taking full leadership and management of all aspects of the Tacconet racquets experience.
• Availability and visibility to the owners and their guests.
• Create a comprehensive racquets program.
• Organize, schedule and manage all tournaments and round robins.
The position encompasses both playing capabilities, teaching and instruction for both adults and juniors, daily maintenance of the tennis courts, and overall court and surrounding grounds management.
Management and Administration:
This is a five-day, 40 hour per week position with the daily schedule starting generally by 8am and ending at 5pm. Days off will be coordinated with the General Manager.
The Tennis Coordinator is expected to be on site one week prior to opening and remain one week after closing for a total of 9 weeks mainly in July and August. The final start date is dependent on the actual opening and closing dates of the camp season, as approved by The Board of Directors.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities are defined in the following areas:
Racquets Management and Instruction
• Be available during morning tennis and open play sessions from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, organize rotations and play-in as may be required.
• Arrange and coordinate the Monday morning adult tennis round-robin. Market program and programming on Sunday and Monday during morning breakfast.
• Arrange and coordinate junior tennis clinic(s) on Monday afternoons with an aim to create programming on a weekly basis by level for youth programming.
• Arrange teen and/or youth round robin events during the week.
• Be available for group or private lessons in the afternoon session (12:00pm – 5:00 pm)
• Create adult programming to match interest and adult availability, ie. Cardio Tennis, Live Ball and 105, and Pickleball clinics.
• Always be responsible for monitoring court etiquette.
Daily Routine Maintenance:
• Sweep and prepare courts for play before 9:00 am and sweep late morning for afternoon session, clinics and private instruction.
• Make available cold water, clean drinking glasses and hand towels;
• Organize and keep tidy tennis area, equipment and courts through sweeping and weeding.
• Maintain court fixtures, nets and screens in good order;
• Any other maintenance or repairs as may be required.
• If lessons are not scheduled: Assist wait staff and ferry duty as requested.
Position and Selection Requirements”
The Tennis Program Coordinator is a leadership role as part of the hospitality team on the island. Any candidate must be highly service-oriented, have excellent customer relationship skills, exemplary communication skills, both verbal and written, have excellent organizational skills and attention to detail and be “a team player”.
The candidate must be flexible due to a changing schedule each day and the mixture of levels of play due to rotating weekly guests. The strong candidate should be organized and detailed while being calm under pressure. Professional appearance is always required when guests are on the grounds.
Qualifications and Experience:
• Breadth and depth of experience as a tennis/racquets professional in line with the vision, culture and needs of Taconnet.
• Degree of experience in a similar, elite private club or similar setting.
• Ability to articulate a compelling vision for Taconnet’s racquets offerings, programming and teaching to all demographics of owners and guests at Taconnet.
• Knowledge of tennis rules, scoring, techniques, and philosophies.
• Demonstrated ability to work well in a team and independently.
• 3+ years teaching experience to players of all levels.
• 3+ years working with children and/or adults.
Compensation:
Hourly wage plus one hundred percent (100%) of all on-court revenues. Eligible for weekly and end of the season tip pool.
Housing and Meals:
Housing onsite is provided with all utilities, if needed. Meals are provided at no cost during the normal camp season.
No smoking is allowed anywhere on the property.
