Director of Racquets and Recreation
Club in Orchid, Florida is looking for a Director of Racquets and Recreation.
Position Overview:
Orchid Island Golf and Beach Club Director of Racquets & Recreation Position Overview
The Director of Racquets & Recreation demonstrates a high-level of proficiency in playing and teaching the sports of tennis and pickleball and overseeing the bocce and croquet programs, while ensuring member satisfaction and managing diverse racquet sports and recreation programs which include: tournaments, clinics, round robins, interclub teams, social events, leagues, and other racquets and sports related activities. Additionally, the Director of Racquets & Recreation will demonstrate the following:
• Acts as a passionate ambassador for the games of tennis, pickleball, bocce, and croquet.
• Ensures member satisfaction of the Racquets & Recreation Department is maintained at 4.5 to 5.0 on the annual member survey.
• Plays tennis and pickleball at a high level and provides instruction to members of varying skill levels to facilitate skill development and relationship building.
• Ensures consistent, efficient, and seamless daily operation of Club-wide racquets and recreation operations while providing members and guests with an environment that exceeds expectations.
• Provides lessons and clinics on the techniques and strategies of racquet sports to members and guests; oversees lessons taught by all professionals.
• Administers and enforces The Club’s racquet sports and recreation policies and procedures regarding play on Club courts.
• Ensures effective orientation and training of new staff and professional development activities are implemented and maintained.
• Schedules staff, sets performance standards, and administers annual performance evaluations.
• Manages purchasing and oversees merchandising of all hard goods inventory for racquet sports and recreation.
• Strings rackets.
• Oversees maintenance, repair, and cleaning of courts.
• Establishes an annual budget for the Racquet Sports and Recreation Department. After approval, monitors and takes corrective action as necessary to ensure that budget’s sales and cost goals are attained.
• Maintains accurate inventory control system and reports results accordingly.
• Writes and edits all racquet sports, bocce, and croquet related news for the Club newsletter including photos.
• Ensures all Club members and guests receive courteous, prompt, and professional attention to all their racquet sports & recreation needs.
• Markets racquet sports and recreation facilities to members and guests.
• Understands POS operations and ensures accurate member billing and sales/activity reports.
• Enforces The Club’s rules and regulations governing use of the facilities, equipment, dress code, and sportsmanship.
• Oversees Pro Shop Manager, seasonal Tennis/Pickleball Professionals, and Court Maintenance Tech.
Education and/or Experience
The ideal candidate should be an engaging, welcoming, and energetic professional with the following criteria:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in sports management or related field, preferred.
• Five years’ director level experience in a private member-owned country club or high-level racquet sports facility.
• Racquet Sports Professional Association (RSPA), Tennis Level 2 Professional.
• Must possess a high-level of proficiency in playing and teaching the sports of tennis and pickleball; understands, or willing to learn, the games of bocce and croquet.

• Exhibits strong leadership skills and ability to coach, mentor, motivate, and develop staff.
• Microsoft Office Suite experience.
• Must have excellent writing and grammar skills.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
• Able to meet and perform the physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position.
• Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping, running, and pulling. Frequent repetitive motions.
• Continuous standing and walking.
Salary and Benefits
