About Spring Lake Racquet Club
Spring Lake Racquet Club, located within the premier master-planned community of Hilton Head Plantation on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, is seeking an innovative, highly visible, and dynamic Director of Court Sports.
Serving a vibrant residential community of approximately 10,000 full-time residents across 4,250 homes, Spring Lake Racquet Club serves as a central hub for active lifestyles, recreation, and community engagement. Hilton Head Plantation is an expansive private, gated community encompassing nearly 4,000 acres, where residential neighborhoods, recreational facilities, clubhouses, parks, nature trails, and four golf courses are integrated into the island’s natural environment.
As a premier court sports facility on the north end of Hilton Head Island, Spring Lake boasts an exceptionally active playing community. The club proudly supports more than 50 USTA teams annually, complemented by a robust calendar of recreational play, competitive tournaments, instructional clinics, leagues, round robins, and signature social events.
This position presents a unique opportunity for an inspiring leader to oversee and continue developing a comprehensive court sports program encompassing tennis, pickleball, and bocce, while fostering a connected, inclusive, and thriving club culture.
Position Summary
The Director of Court Sports reports directly to the General Manager and provides strategic vision, operational leadership, and daily management for the entire Spring Lake Racquet Club Court Sports Department.
The Director is responsible for driving player participation, managing complex multi-sport court operations, leading instructional and support staff, overseeing departmental financial performance, and maintaining high standards throughout the facilities.
The ideal candidate combines strong operational and organizational skills with a passion for court sports and community building, ensuring an exceptional experience for Spring Lake members, Hilton Head Plantation residents, and guests.
Core Responsibilities
Strategic Programming & Member Experience
• Design, execute, and continually develop a comprehensive schedule of tennis, pickleball, and bocce programs tailored to a variety of ages and skill levels.
• Maximize player engagement through instructional clinics, round robins, recreational and competitive leagues, sanctioned tournaments, exhibitions, and social events.
• Actively gather and evaluate participant feedback to improve existing programs and identify new opportunities.
• Stay current with emerging trends and best practices within tennis, pickleball, bocce, and the broader court sports industry.
• Maintain a highly visible, welcoming, and accessible presence as the primary ambassador for court sports within the community.
Staff Leadership & Professional Development
• Recruit, onboard, schedule, mentor, supervise, and evaluate a professional team of court sports instructors and support staff.
• Establish consistent instructional, programming, and customer-service standards throughout the department.
• Coordinate staff schedules, private instruction, clinics, events, and other departmental responsibilities.
• Conduct structured staff meetings and establish clear expectations and performance goals aligned with overall club objectives.
• Encourage continuing education and professional development among instructional staff.
Facility & Court Operations
• Oversee the daily presentation, safety, maintenance, and overall condition of tennis, pickleball, and bocce facilities and surrounding areas.
• Manage complex court scheduling to effectively balance recreational play, USTA and other league matches, instructional programming, tournaments, and special events.
• Partner with community maintenance staff and outside contractors to coordinate routine court care, repairs, resurfacing, and facility improvements.
• Identify future equipment, maintenance, and capital improvement needs.
• Ensure facilities consistently provide a safe, attractive, and welcoming environment for participants.
Financial Performance & Administration
• Develop, monitor, and manage the annual Court Sports operating budget under the direction of the General Manager.
• Assist in developing and prioritizing departmental capital improvement projects and expenditures.
• Monitor departmental revenue and expenses and identify opportunities to improve financial performance.
• Establish and evaluate pricing for lessons, clinics, leagues, tournaments, events, and other programming.
• Utilize CourtReserve and other digital platforms for reservations, program registration, billing, scheduling, and participant communication.
• Maintain participation, utilization, and financial reporting to measure departmental performance and progress toward annual goals.
Leagues, Tournaments & Special Events
• Oversee and support an exceptionally active USTA program with more than 50 teams playing out of Spring Lake Racquet Club annually.
• Serve as a resource for USTA captains and players while managing court allocations and scheduling needs associated with league play.
• Direct the planning and execution of club tournaments, exhibitions, social events, and other special programming.
• Coordinate the hosting of outside tournaments and major competitive events at Spring Lake.
• Work closely with governing organizations, tournament officials, volunteers, staff, and community partners to successfully execute major events.
Communications & Community Engagement
• Develop clear and consistent communications promoting court sports programs, events, schedules, and facility updates.
• Utilize community newsletters, CourtReserve, email, club publications, and other communication channels to maximize awareness and participation.
• Coordinate with Hilton Head Plantation communications staff to promote programs and major events.
• Build positive relationships with members, residents, guests, volunteers, league captains, committees, and community organizations.
• Represent Spring Lake Racquet Club and the Court Sports Department at community meetings and functions when appropriate.
• Foster a strong sense of community through recreational, competitive, instructional, and social programming.
Candidate Qualifications
• Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive management or leadership experience within a high-volume racquet facility, country club, resort, master-planned community, or comparable recreational environment preferred.
• Programming: Demonstrated success developing and delivering recreational and competitive court sports programming.
• Leadership: Proven ability to recruit, develop, schedule, and lead professional and support staff.
• Financial Management: Experience with departmental budgeting, revenue management, pricing, purchasing, and financial reporting.
• Certifications: Professional certification through a recognized industry organization such as PTR, RSPA, USTA Coaching, PPR, or equivalent is highly preferred.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency with court management and reservation platforms, preferably CourtReserve, along with online registration, scheduling, communication, and general office software.
• League & Event Management: Experience coordinating leagues, tournaments, special events, and high-volume court scheduling strongly preferred.
• Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with residents, members, staff, volunteers, committees, and outside organizations.
• Leadership Style: A visible, energetic, organized, and service-oriented leader who enjoys being actively engaged with the playing community.
Compensation & Benefits
Spring Lake Racquet Club offers a competitive compensation package designed to provide both a strong base salary and additional earning potential through instruction and departmental programming.
• Base Salary: $50,000–$60,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
• Instructional Income: Additional earning potential through a percentage of private lessons and instructional programming.
• Professional Staff Revenue: Percentage of instructional revenue generated by assistant court sports professionals.
• Retirement: 401(k) plan with an employer match of up to 5%.
• Health Insurance: Employer-paid health insurance.
• Dental Insurance: Employer-paid dental insurance.
• Paid Time Off: Two weeks of paid vacation annually.

Position Expectations
The Director of Court Sports is expected to be a visible and engaged leader who takes ownership of the entire Spring Lake Racquet Club court sports operation.
Success in this position will be measured through participation and program growth, financial performance, facility standards, staff development, member and resident satisfaction, and the overall quality of the court sports experience.
The Director will be expected to respect the traditions and established programs of Spring Lake Racquet Club while bringing new ideas, energy, and leadership to continue advancing tennis, pickleball, and bocce within the Hilton Head Plantation community.
