Director of Racquet Sports
Club in Edgartown, Massachusetts is looking for a Director of Racquet Sports.

Position Overview:
The Yacht Club, a premiere New England yacht club located on Martha’s Vineyard, is seeking a Director of Racquet Sports to lead the Club’s tennis & racquets program. The Club serves over 800 active members on 7 Har-Tru courts, 4 hard courts and permanent pickleball courts. The Director of Racquet Sports is responsible for the overall member experience on the courts — programming, instruction, staffing, events, and budget.

This is a seasonal management position from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

– Design and oversee all tennis and pickleball programming: private and semi-private lessons, group clinics, junior development, and social round robins. – Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and supervise all teaching professionals and support staff; conduct background checks; provide performance reviews and set standards for instruction quality and member service. – Organize and run the Club’s tournament calendar, including member-guest events, club championships, and inter-club matches.

Member Relations & Communications

– Serve as the primary point of contact for tennis and pickleball members; proactively engage the membership, welcome new members to the program, and resolve member concerns promptly. – Communicate programming, court closures, weather policies, and event information via newsletters, email, and the Club’s app/website.

Business & Financial Management

– Prepare and manage the department’s annual operating and capital budgets; track lesson, clinic, and merchandise revenue against targets. – Set and administer the lesson/clinic structure for teaching staff. – Oversee the tennis shop: inventory control, and point-of-sale operations; manage stringing services and equipment demo programs. – Maintain accurate payroll, timekeeping, and expense records for the department in coordination with the Club’s business office.

Facilities & Operations

– Oversee court maintenance provided by club facilities department to Club standards; coordinate resurfacing, repairs, and capital projects with the GM and facilities team. – Enforce Club rules regarding court reservations, dress code, guest policy, and safety. – Ensure compliance with employment law, risk management, and insurance/liability requirements for all instruction and programming.

Professional Standards

– Maintain active RSPA and/or PTR certification (or equivalent) and stay current on teaching methodology, sports science, and industry trends.

Qualifications – RSPA and/or PTR certification required (Master Professional or Elite Professional preferred); current or former RSPA/PTR “Certified” or “Professional” designation at minimum. – Minimum 5–7 years of teaching and program management experience, with at least 2–3 years in a Head Professional or Director-level role, ideally at a private club. – Demonstrated business management skills: budgeting, staff supervision, and P&L accountability – Strong playing background (collegiate, professional, or high-level competitive experience strongly preferred). – Excellent communication, hospitality, and conflict-resolution skills; comfortable engaging with a high-net-worth (not sure we want to say this explicitly) membership. – Proficiency with club management/POS software (e.g., ClubEssential) and scheduling platforms (e.g., PlaybyPoint). – CPR/First Aid certification; background check required. – Ability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays required.
