Director of Racquet Sports
Club in Hanover, Massachusetts is looking for a Director of Racquet Sports.
Position Overview:
The Director of Racquet Sports & Activities is responsible for the strategic leadership, coordination, and execution of all racquet sport programs at the South Shore YMCA, including tennis, pickleball, and other court-based activities. This role oversees a comprehensive range of programming, such as private lessons, court rentals, contract time, league play, adaptive programs, and racquet sport components of camp. The position is also tasked with the development of new offerings to meet the evolving needs of members and the broader community.
In addition to programmatic leadership, the Director of Racquet Sports & Activities ensures the maintenance and overall condition of all racquet sport facilities, including indoor and outdoor courts, in alignment with YMCA safety and quality standards.
This role provides leadership to a large tennis program with an overall annual budget of $1.3 million. The Director of Racquet Sports is an active and engaged member of the branch leadership team, contributing to a positive and collaborative culture. Responsibilities include supporting branch-wide operations, participating in regular staff meetings, upholding facility cleanliness standards, assisting with special events, building coverage and contributing to branch initiatives and fundraising that strengthen community engagement and member experience.

Program Management & Development
Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs
STAFF ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT
Leads and manages a high-performing team of staff and volunteers to ensure the successful delivery of racquet sports and other programming as assigned. Responsibilities include recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, and coaching team members to foster a positive, mission-driven work culture. This role actively supports staff development through regular feedback, performance evaluations, and motivational strategies that promote growth and accountability. Ensures all required staff certifications are current, properly documented, and in compliance with YMCA standards.
Membership Engagement & Development
Fosters meaningful relationships with members through proactive, responsive, and consistent communication. Actively engages with individuals and groups to understand their needs, resolve concerns, and create a welcoming, inclusive environment. Promotes a strong sense of community by connecting members to programs, staff, and the YMCA’s mission. Plays a key role in member retention and recruitment by building trust, encouraging participation, and supporting members throughout their Y experience.
Budget & Financial Management
Develops, manages, and regularly reviews the program budget to ensure alignment with fiscal goals. Actively monitors financial performance, including revenue, expenses, gains, and losses, and makes data-informed adjustments as needed. Prepares and delivers consistent budget reports—typically monthly—clearly communicating financial progress, challenges, and projections to leadership to ensure transparency and accountability.
Facility Management
Takes primary responsibility for the upkeep, safety, and overall condition of all racquet sport courts and program spaces. Works proactively with vendors, facility director, and program staff to ensure regular maintenance, timely repairs, and high-quality standards are consistently met. Oversees day-to-day facility needs and coordinates preventative care to ensure all spaces remain clean, functional, and in top condition to support a positive member and participant experience.
Volunteer Development/Fundraising
Actively cultivates and engages volunteers to strengthen program delivery and promote community involvement in alignment with the YMCA’s commitment to social responsibility. Build a strong volunteer network through recruitment, training, and meaningful recognition.
Community Involvement & Support
Plays a key role in fundraising efforts by identifying opportunities for donor engagement, supporting annual campaign initiatives, and participating in branch events that advance the YMCA’s mission and financial sustainability.

Required Qualifications:
The ability to develop positive, effective working relationships with members, parents, staff, and volunteers is critical to this position.
Effective teaching skills and the ability to deliver excellent member service.
Minimum of 5 years of successful coaching tennis experience with adults and juniors
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in supervision of staff team and budget management experience
Preferred Candidate will have:
Bachelor’s degree from 4-year college or university
P2 Level Coaching
5.0 to 5.5 NTRP Playing Ability
Physical Demands
Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk and talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
