Director of Racquet Sports
Tennis facility in West Yarmouth, Massachusetts is looking for a Director of Racquet Sports.

Position Overview:
About Great Island:
Great Island is a small, summer-oriented residential community of approximately 600 acres in West Yarmouth, Massachusetts on the south shore of Cape Cod. The private island, which is accessible by road, consists of pristine beaches on Nantucket Sound and Lewis Bay, marshland, fields, forested conservation land, a sheltered cove, a historic lighthouse and 41 privately owned homes. Other amenities include a small seasonal restaurant, a 10-hole rustic golf course, four Har-Tru tennis courts, two pickleball courts, and two docks.

Primary Function:

The Director of Racquet Sports will oversee and manage all aspects of Great Island’s seasonal tennis and pickleball operations. This position will promote an exceptional “tennis experience” providing first-rate services and dynamic programs to all homeowners, their children, and their guests.

Supervision:
The Lead Counselor reports directly to the General Manager and works closely with the Racquets Committee.

Primary Duties
Operational
 Be a welcoming presence at the courts Monday – Friday (9:00 am – 6:00 pm) and Saturday (8:00 am – noon).
 Oversee all aspects of tennis and pickleball instruction for both adults and juniors of all ages and ability levels.
 Develop and promote children’s programming as well as junior, teen, and adult clinics; private individual and group instruction, interclub play, and events.
 Create a seasonal schedule of events (clinics, round robins, private lesson availability, etc.) that can be provided to the homeowners prior to the summer season.
 Maintain a high standard of quality and enthusiasm for all events, tournaments, and programming.
 Plan, oversee, and manage the booking of all tennis tournaments, round robins, and social events for all ages and skill levels.
 Act as “concierge” for members’ tennis and pickleball requests; assist in matching those who are looking for a game or to practice.
 Ensure that all racquet courts are being maintained in the best playing condition possible; that courts and surrounding areas are kept clean, that balls are fresh and in good condition, that nets are maintained at the proper height, and that the ball machine is in working order.
 Ensure that the Har-Tru courts and properly watered and rolled.
 Ensure that the Tennis Shop maintains a warm, clean and inviting atmosphere and is stocked with demo tennis and pickleball racquets, balls, and accessories.
 Provide racquet stringing and regripping services.
 Provide clear directions on how to sign up for events and lessons.
 Let homeowners know the best way to get in touch with Director and Assistant.
 Post pricing for all programming, private lessons, clinics, etc.

General and Administrative/Financial

 Communicate to all homeowners on a weekly basis through email, phone, website, text, etc. Provide timely and consistent follow-up to homeowner inquiries.
 Submit weekly payroll as required.
 Submit billing for private and/or group lessons and clinics to accounting on a weekly basis.
 Coordinate with General Manager regarding orders for both on-court and off-court supplies for ongoing maintenance and teaching/operating needs.
 Monitor court conditions for cleanliness and safety; report problems to management.
 Recruit, hire, train, and supervise tennis staff; maintain high level of teaching professionalism.
 Schedule staff according to level of business.
 Make recommendations on operating and capital improvements.

Qualifications
 3+ years of experience as a teaching professional in a similar club setting. Experience as a Director, Assistant Director, or Head Professional preferred.
 RSPA or PTR certification preferred. Pickleball experience preferred.
 Successful experience in developing, planning and implementing comprehensive junior and adult instructional programs, tournaments and social events.
 Superior organization and time management skills.
 Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact effectively in a wide range of
situations and to build strong relationships across all island demographics.
 Strong written and verbal communication skills.
 Be willing to focus on the needs of all levels of play, older players, and players recovering from injury.
 Proven ability to attract, hire, mentor, and retain a strong team of professionals.
 Must have proper authorization to work in the United States.

Schedule and Compensation:
10 week season runs from June 23 through September 1

% of assistant lesson TBD
$1,000 weekly salary

No fee for Group participation for children of Director
